Xiaomi Confirmed to use Visionox AMOLED panels on its Dual Foldable Smartphone
Last week we have seen, Xiaomi’s President Lin Bin showcasing a dual foldable smartphone in a video on the micro-blogging site Weibo. Now Visionox, which is a Chinese display company has confirmed the reports that they are working with Xiaomi together on this foldable phone. The spokesperson from Visionox also said that dual-foldable design is a breakthrough in the smartphone industry.
Earlier there were reports that Xiaomi is working with Visionox for OLED panels for its foldable phone and now the news is confirmed. Recently, Lin Bin also revealed that the foldable device has overcome many technical problems and the company will consider taking it into mass production in the future if everyone likes it. The upcoming foldable device can be folded to a phone from a tablet and vice versa. Recently we have also see foldable display prototype from Samsung and Royole also released its foldable Flex Pai smartphone.
Earlier: The South Korean Giant – Samsung was first to tease an Android Foldable form factor a few months ago and now a video claiming to show an upcoming folding phone from the smartphone maker Xiaomi has been leaked online. The device looks to be tablet sized and Google maps have been accessed on it and could be folded on both sides to give it a smartphone form factor.
The device can be triple folded with two hinges near the center and it switches from a tablet to a phone. After Samsung, we were expecting many other Smartphone makers to bring their foldable devices but looks like Xiaomi has already begun the race. The famous leakster Evan Blass has posted a 20-second video of a foldable device but he isn’t sure about the authenticity of the video as of now.
He also notes that the upcoming handset could be from Xiaomi since the clip indicates that the device is Chinese in origin and interface is similar to MIUI which we see on Xiaomi devices. Even the app draws along with status bar icons and lock screen shortcuts clearly indicate a Xiaomi device. Moreover, the power buttons look to be at the center top edge and the UI on the device is completely optimized when the device is folded to a smaller size.
The UI on the device keeps adapting when it is folded and switches automatically from tablet UI to phone UI after folding and the bottom bar gets narrower. We might see a handful of foldable smartphones this year since many of the Chinese manufacturers have been preparing for the same. What are your views on this triple fold device? Is it from Xiaomi?
