Google Discontinues Support to Android Ice Cream Sandwich Devices

Yesterday, Google announced that it would shut down its Allo messaging service to focus more on Messages. And, today there’s another announcement from the company that it will be discontinuing updates to its 7-year-old Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS running devices.

Google has announced this on its blog post stating that they are depreciating support for ICS in future releases of Google Play Services. Further, the Google Play Store on Ice Cream Sandwich devices will no longer update to Play Services APK beyond version 14.7.99.

If you still own a device that runs on Android ICS OS, then you might be in the 1% of the global users, according to Google. The company also believes that many of these 1% devices aren’t even being actively used. Henceforth, Google is withdrawing its support to these devices. Stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more updates.
