Free Epic Games Store games: this week's giveaways revealed

Ready for this week's free Epic Games Store games? It's looking likely that we're all going to be locked in for at least a short period of time while the sensible COVID-19 coronavirus health protection measures kick in, so what better time for some gaming escapism?

We may all wish we could run riot around our home towns right now, but while we're confined indoors, why not let off some steam in a digital world instead? Ubisoft's Watch Dogs mixes the go-anywhere, do-anything attitude of the Grand Theft Auto series with some cyber-security bothering hacking mechanics, letting you take control of the streets and the infrastructure supporting it. It's free on the Epic Games Store this week.

Looking for something a little less bombastic? Narrative-driven exploration game The Stanley Parable is also free this week. It's a great game, and the less you know about it going in the better its surprises will be. Just be aware that if you're feeling a bit trapped at the moment, you might want to save this one away for happier times.

Epic Games Store is continuing to offer free games every week for the forseeable future as part of its commitment to winning over gamers. It's aiming to establish itself as a serious game distribution force, duking it out against the long-standing king of PC gaming, Valve's Steam platform.

While Epic has courted some controversy through its aggressive approach to securing PC gaming exclusives for its platform, it's hard to argue against its continued distribution of top-notch free games.
