Xiaomi Redmi 5A with 5″ HD Display & 13MP Camera Goes Official for Rs. 4,999

After teasing from the last few days, Xiaomi today launched the Redmi 5A smartphone in the Indian market. It is also the most affordable Xiaomi smartphone ever launched in India. The device comes in 2GB and 3GB RAM variants and is priced at Rs. 4,999 and Rs. 6,999 respectively. The Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4 are the most popular smartphones in the budget segment. However, there is no smartphone from major Chinese manufacturers in the sub Rs. 5,000 price segment.
With the Redmi 5A launch, we can expect the company to further increase its market share in India. In the 3Q of 2017, Xiaomi became the largest smartphone brand in India. Talking about the device, the Redmi 5A comes with a polycarbonate body with metal finish. While the Redmi 5A was already launched in China, the newly launched Indian variant comes with a dedicated MicroSD card slot. Rest of the specifications remain same on both the Indian and Chinese variants.
It comes with a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display. Under the hood, it comes powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and comes coupled with Adreno 308 GPU. As said earlier, the device comes with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage. With the dedicated MicroSD card slot, the user can expand the storage additionally up to 128GB.
In the camera department, the Redmi 5A packs a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture for selfies and video calls. It is backed by a 3,000mAh battery that is mentioned to give 8 days of standby time. The device runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat based MIUI 9 out of the box. On the connectivity front, the device offers 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port.
There is also an Infrared sensor for controlling the electronics like TV and AC. It measures 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.35 mm and weighs 137 grams. The device comes in Platinum Silver, Champagne Gold, and Rose Gold color options. The Rs. 4999 price tag for the 2GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5A is limited to the first five million units, and later the price will be increased to Rs. 5,999. It will be sold through Flipkart, Mi.com, Mi Home stores, and Mi Preferred Partner stores starting December 7th.
