Oppo gets Caught Cheating on Benchmarks for Misleading scores
Recently we saw Huawei getting into the news for manipulating the benchmark scores by enhancing the performance of the device for getting high benchmark scores and now Oppo has been caught doing the same. UL Benchmark which is the maker of the benchmarking application – 3D Mark has removed the listing of the Oppo Find X and F7 for enhancing the benchmark scores. The company has analyzed both the devices and tweaked the performance to get up to 41 percent higher scores on the public 3D Mark app than the scores from the private application.
This private app is not available to the end users and manufactures and Oppo has acknowledged the ability of its devices to detect benchmark application and games and higher its performance. This statement for Oppo has been rejected by UL and said it was clear that Oppo was looking for the benchmarks by name and not the extra processing load. The company also said that this kind of optimization is forbidden according to their rules for manufacturers.
Oppo also accepted the fact that Oppo Find X and F7 were detecting the public version of the 3D mark application. And when the users start using the apps like any games or 3D benchmarks which require high performance, the processor will run at full speed for giving smother experience to the user. It also said that when the user hasn’t used the device for 5 to 10 seconds the hardware performance falls down to 70 to 80 percent.
Oppo has also indicated that it will be making the change to this and also plans on upgrading the system and try to distinguish between the demands of everyday apps. Earlier we have seen the smartphone makers like HTC, Huawei, Samsung, and few other big brands have made it to the cheating list and Oppo announced open access to the Performance Mode on its latest EMUI 9.0 which will let users maximize the performance of the device accordingly. What do you think? Do other smartphone makers also do similar things regularly? Comment in the section below and stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more news and updates.
