Samsung’s New On-screen Fingerprint Reader Patents Spotted

Samsung appears to be focusing on a new full-screen display for its upcoming smartphones next year. With this significant design update, a new patent report also suggests that the Korean tech giant, with its new smartphones, would soon likely implement an optical onscreen fingerprint reader to unlock the device.

The report states that the new patent applications that have been filed focuses on the onscreen fingerprint reader, the first patent showcases a traditional on-screen fingerprint sensor to what we have seen on the Vivo phones (like Vivo Nex and Vivo X21).

However, the other new patent filed seems to be peculiar where the fingerprint scanner takes advantage of full screen to scan. During the process, the report suggests that the processor would gradually increase the brightness of the screen when the fingerprint is detected and later allows the user to get into the device.

The patent images showcased according to the report suggests us the traditional fingerprint scanner can be seen on the usual Samsung designed phone with the bezels and the unique fingerprint scanner that utilizes full screen is showcased on a full screen with a dewdrop notch for the camera.

This hints us that Samsung might be implementing the traditional optical on-screen fingerprint reader on its mid-range segment and the latter on its premium smartphone segment.

Samsung would be launching its new Galaxy S10 in early 2019.
