Google Brings eSIM Support to Airtel and Reliance Jio in India For its Pixel 2 and 3 Devices
Physical SIM existence is most likely to end soon – thanks to eSIM and thanks to Google and Apple for bringing it forward. While Apple has brought eSIM capabilities to iPhones launched, this year, Google has introduced eSIM initially with their Pixel 2 devices, which were launched last year. While it was only supported on Google Fi that time, Google has recently announced that it is bringing eSIM to more carriers around the world.
Google is working to simplify the process of you going out to get a SIM card and trying it to insert into your smartphone, instead, scanning the eSIM makes it hassle-free. To make this happen, the Mountain View tech giant has announced that it is expanding the eSIM to carriers across US, Germany, UK and in India as well. Bharati Airtel and Reliance Jio are currently the only networks that support eSIM in India – for smartphones including the latest iPhones and now, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 devices’ line-up as well.
This new eSIM transition is expected to bring us instant connectivity across several carrier services in and outside the country. According to Google, it is also planning to get these eSIM capabilities across its ecosystem with devices like Chromebooks and Wear OS smartwatches in the future.
Furthermore, to encourage the eSIM capabilities, Google had confirmed that they are also creating a new program that will allow Android OEM makers to build eSIM-capable smartphones for the future.
