OnePlus Will Be The First Flagship Phone to Come With Snapdragon 855 SoC in 2019

Qualcomm has unleashed its latest powerful Snapdragon 855 SoC at its ongoing Technology Summit. Surprisingly, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has taken the stage to announce that OnePlus’ next 2019 flagship would be the first smartphone to feature this powerful SD 855 SoC.

At the Summit, Pete has also announced that OnePlus would be the first to bring the 5G smartphone to Europe with the popular EE network in early 2019. Earlier, reports were stating that OnePlus would bring a new ‘5G’ enabled smartphone at MWC 2019, which would not be the successor to the OnePlus 6T. This is because the 5G OnePlus phone would certainly be expensive due to its higher production costs and defeats the motto of OnePlus, i.e. to bring affordable devices to the audience.

While the latest announcement certainly adds fuel to the earlier reports as MWC would be the first event to showcase the upcoming powerful smartphones, wherein brands like Samsung would also showcase their upcoming flagship phones. Speaking of Samsung, the Korean manufacturer usually reveals the Snapdragon’s latest SoC with their Galaxy line-up every year. However, this time, it seems OnePlus would exhibit their first 5G phone at MWC 2019, as per Pete’s announcement.

As reported earlier, if the new OnePlus 5G phone will not be the successor to OnePlus 6T, which starts at Rs 34,999 in India ($549 in the US) then what can we expect the price of this new 5G OnePlus smartphone, which is technically robust with the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC under the hood?.

Well, a report from Engadget states that OnePlus 5G phone would definitely cost below $1000 (approximately below Rs 71,000). The report further states that Lau assures that OnePlus’s first 5G enabled smartphone will cost below $1000 for sure and most likely in the price range of $750-$850, which is great, as this year 4G enabled flagships cost up to $1000 and above.

Considering Pete’s announcement, we might need to wait till MWC 2019 at least to know more about the OnePlus’ new approach to its first 5G enabled smartphone and thanks to Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 SoC and its X50 5G modem to making 5G powered smartphones possible.
