Alcatel Announces 5 New Smartphones at MWC 2018 – Alcatel 5, 3, 3X, 3V & 1X

As announced earlier, TCL owned Alcatel announced five new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. The list of newly announced devices includes Alcatel 5, Alcatel 3, Alcatel 3V, Alcatel 3X, and Alcatel 1X. One of them is the world’s first smartphone to run on Android Oreo Go Edition. While Alcatel is known for offering low-cost smartphones in the Western markets, the company also launched a few devices in the Indian market. As of now, there is no information about the availability of the new Alcatel smartphones in India.
Alcatel 5
The Alcatel 5 is the first ever smartphone in the new Alcatel 5 series announced today. It is also the costliest among the lot priced at EUR 229.99. Talking about the design, it comes with a brushed metallic unibody design with the matte finish. It sports a 5.7-inch 18:9 display on the front with HD+ (1440 x 720 pixels) resolution. Under the hood is the 1.5GHz MediaTek MTK6750 octa-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
It sports a 12MP rear camera with PDAF, f/2.2 aperture, and dual LED flash. For selfies, there is a 13MP + 5MP dual fixed focus cameras that offer up to 120-degree FoV. The Alcatel 5 will be running on Android Nougat out of the box. It measures 152.35 x 71.1 x 8.45 mm and weighs 144 grams. The user can authenticate this device using the fingerprint sensor or face unlock. Connectivity options include Cat.4 LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS,FM Radio, NFC, and USB Type-C port.
Alcatel 3
Talking about the Alcatel 3, it comes with glossy finish body with curved edges. It will be available in Spectrum Black, Spectrum Blue, and Spectrum Gold color options. The device comes with a 5.5-inch HD+ 18:9 display and is powered by MediaTek MT6739 quad-core processor. Unlike the Alcatel 5, the Alcatel 5 will be running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo. With EUR 150 price tag, the device offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.
In the camera department, there is a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP front camera with f/2.4 aperture. This device also supports facial recognition for unlocking the device. It will be backed by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery that only supports 5V/1A charging input. The Alcatel 3 measures 147.1 X 68.8 X 8.5 mm and weighs 145 grams. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, VoLTE, VoWifi, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, and MicroUSB 2.0 port.
Alcatel 3X
Compared to the Alcatel 3, the Alcatel 3X offers better specifications at a slightly higher price. It will be retailing for EUR 180 and comes with polycarbonate body with metallic painting finish. On the front is 5.7-inch HD+ ( 1440 x 720 pixels) IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio. While the Alcatel 3X comes powered by the same MediaTek MT6739 as seen on the Alcatel 3, this device still runs on older Android Nougat. It also includes 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.
Talking about the cameras, there is a 13MP + 5MP autofocus dual rear cameras and a 5MP fixed focus single front camera. The Alcatel 3X also comes with fingerprint sensor and face unlock. Even with the bigger display, the Alcatel 3X comes with the same 3,000mAh battery with 5V/1A charging input. It will be available in Metallic Black, Metallic Blue, and Metallic Gold color options. Connectivity options on this device remain same as on the Alcatel 3.
Alcatel 3V
The Alcatel 3V costs EUR 190 and is the only smartphone in the Alcatel 3 lineup to offer Full HD+ display. It sports a 6-inch 18:9 display with 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution. It is backed by a MediaTek MT8735A quad-core processor clocked at 1.45GHz and offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. As seen on the Alcatel 3, the Alcatel 3V also comes with the glossy finish body. It will be running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
On the camera front, there is a 12MP + 2MP dual rear cameras and a 5MP single selfie camera. Both the cameras on the Alcatel 3V are accompanied by the LED flash. It runs on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo and is backed by the same 3,000mAh battery. It measures 162 x 76 x 8.05 mm and weighs 155 grams. The Alcatel 3V will be available in Spectrum Black, Spectrum Blue, and Spectrum Gold color options.
Alcatel 1X
The Alcatel 1X is the world’s first smartphone to run on Android Oreo Go Edition. It is the liter version of Android OS that is basically designed for smartphones with entry-level specifications. The Alcatel 1X with single SIM and dual SIM support will be available in April for EUR 100 and EUR 110 respectively. It is powered by 1.3GHz MediaTek MTK6580 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage.
On the front is the 5.3-inch FWVGA+ (960 x 480 pixels) display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The device comes with an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera for selfies. It is backed by a 2460mAh battery that is rated to give up to 26 hours of talk time. Connectivity options include 147.5 x 70.6 x 9.15 mm and 151 grams. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, FM Radio, and MicroUSB 2.0 port.
