Sony Launches Xperia XZ2 & Xperia XZ2 Compact with 18:9 Display & Snapdragon 845 SoC

As rumors suggested, Sony has officially unveiled the Xperia XZ2 & Xperia XZ2 Compact smartphones at MWC 2018. With these two new devices, Sony is finally adopting the 18:9 display technology. While there is no pricing mentioned, the Xperia XZ2 & Xperia XZ2 Compact will be available globally starting next month. The Xperia XZ2 smartphones are the successor to last year’s Xperia XZ1 smartphones.

Talking about the major differences, the Xperia XZ2 comes with metal unibody design whereas the Xperia XZ2 Compact sports polycarbonate body. Unlike the Xperia XZ2, the Xperia XZ2 Compact also lacks the wireless charging support. Both the devices are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. There is 4GB of RAM and 64GBof internal storage that can be expandable up to 400GB via a MicroSD card slot.

While the Xperia XZ2 comes with a 5.7-inch Full HD (2160 x 1080 pixels) Triluminos HDR display, the Xperia XZ2 Compact features a smaller 5-inch display with the same resolution. The displays on both the devices come with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Depending on the markets, you will either get the single SIM or dual SIM variant. The smartphones are also dust and water resistant with the IP68 certification.

Sony is offering stereo S-Force front speakers on both the devices. Talking about the cameras, there is a 19MP camera on the rear with f/2.0 aperture, 5-axis stabilization, and 8X digital zoom. It can record normal videos in 4K resolution or 960fps slow-motion videos in Full HD resolution. For selfies, there is a 5MP front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture and 23mm super wide-angle lens. On the rear, we can also spot the circular fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device.

While the Xperia XZ2 packs a 3,180mAh battery, the Xperia XZ2 Compact comes with a slightly smaller 2,870mAh battery. Both the devices support Quick Charge 3.0 via USB Type-C port. While the Xperia XZ2 measures 153 x 72 x 11.1 mm and weighs 198 grams, the Xperia XZ2 Compact 135 x 65 x 12.1 mm and weighs 168 grams. Connectivity options include Cat.18 LTE, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, and USB 3.1 Type-C port.

Both the smartphones lack the 3.5mm headphone jack. The Xperia XZ2 comes in Liquid Black, Liquid Silver, Deep Green, and Ash Pink color options. On the other hand, the Xperia XZ2 Compact will be available in White Silver, Black, Moss Green, and Coral Pink color options. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
