Chinese Railway Police Use $600 GLXSS Smart Glasses to Catch 7 Fugitives & 26 Fake ID Holders

While the Google failed to sell the Google Glasses as a personal device, the company found a separate niche for it via Glass Partners. Back in 2017, the Google Glass was reborn as Google Glass Enterprise Edition. The teams from Google, Lenovo, Microsoft, and China Aeronautics Consortium combined to form a new company called LLVision in 2014. In 2015, the LLVision came out with the Google Glass-like smart glasses called GLXSS.

Just like Google Glass Enterprise Edition, the LLVision is also targeting the enterprises with the GLXSS. It was then listed on JD’s crowdsourcing platform and achieved 4254% success. Now, the same LLVision GLXSS smart glasses are used by the Chinese Police. Earlier this month, the Police officers wearing these smart glasses are spotted at Zhengzhou high-speed railway station while screening out passengers with fake documents.

The data from the GLXSS smart glasses will be transmitted to a smartphone-like device running on Android. Here is where the actual processing takes place, the ID will be matched with Government records for authentication. All Police officers at the Zhengzhou high-speed railway station are now using these smart glasses to make the security check process faster. Till date, the Police have caught 7 fugitives & 26 fake ID holders at this railway station.

Apart from Police, the GLXSS are also being used in logistics, security, and medical field for increasing productivity. Talking about the hardware, the LLVision GLXSS is powered by a Cortex-A7 quad-core processor and comes coupled with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. It comes equipped with an 8MP camera that can record videos in 1080p resolution. While the hardware mostly remains same, the LLVision will be developing software and applications as per the enterprise needs.

It also supports voice recognition and gesture controls. With all these features, the GLXSS weighs just 55 grams. There is a 0.25-inch viewfinder with VGA resolution. While Google Glasses give a 25-inch view at 2.5 meters, the LLVision GLXSS offer a 35-inch view at the same 2.5 meters distance. There is also a MicroUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transmission. On the connectivity front, it includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. It is backed by a 650mAh battery, and there is no information about the battery life of these smart glasses.
