Alongside the Redmi Y1 Lite, Xiaomi also launched the Y1 Lite with trimmed-down specifications. Even the Redmi Note 5A launched in China also came with a lite variant with low-price tag. Now, the Redmi Y1 Lite launched in India is priced at Rs. 6,999 and packs the same internals. Just like the Redmi Y1, the Y1 Lite also comes with the same polycarbonate body with aluminum alloy mid-frame. For the Rs. 6,999 price tag, we can’t complain about the build materials.
On the front, the Redmi Y1 Lite sports a 5.5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by the 1.4GHz Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor, while the Redmi Y1 packs Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor. There is just 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via a MicroSD card slot.
The device runs on Android 7.1 Nougat based MIUI 8 out of the box and will soon receive the MIUI 9 update. It comes with a triple card slot for adding two nano SIM cards and a MicroSD card. In the camera department, the Redmi Y1 offers a 13MP camera on the rear with PDAF, f/2.2 aperture, and LED flash. On the front is a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture for selfies and video calls.
It is backed by the same 3,080mAh battery as seen on the Redmi Y1. With the less powerful processor, we can expect the device to give slightly higher battery life. There is no fingerprint sensor on this device but includes the IR Blaster for controlling home electronics just like the remote controller.Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port.
The smartphone measures 153× 76.2 × 7.55 mm and weighs 150 grams. It comes in Gold and Dark Grey colors. The Redmi Y1 Lite will be available on Amazon.in, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores starting November 8th. Later, the device will also be sold through Reliance Digital and Mi Preferred Partner stores.
