Nubia Alpha Smartwatch with Flexible Display to Launch on April 8th

At the MWC 2019 in February, China’s Nubia showcased the Nubia Alpha smartwatch with some advanced features. According to the company, the Nubia Alpha has the functionality and hardware to replace a smartphone. The company first unveiled the Alpha smartwatch at the CES 2019 held in Las Vegas in early January. At that time, the company mentioned to first launch it in China in the month of April. Now, Nubia has officially revealed the launch date as April 8th.

The eSIM variant which will be limited to just the Chinese market can even make voice and video calls on the go. On the other hand, the foreign markets will be receiving the Bluetooth variant. Under the hood is the Qualcomm  Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC coupled with 1GB of RAM. It runs on a custom OS which brings a lot of features. The Alpha Smartwatch includes 8GB of internal storage for installing apps and storing offline music.

It packs a 500mAh battery which is said to last for a day or two depending on the usage. The 4-inch flexible display on the Nubia Alpha makes it look stand out from the Android Wear devices. It comes with a 4-inch flexible OLED display with an unusual 960 by 192 pixels resolution. Considering it as a first-gen device in this new segment, the design still needs some refinement. The two thick bezels on either side of the display make it too bulky on the wrist.

It comes with a camera along with an additional sensor to track air gestures. With this sensor, the users can simply wave on the smartwatch to control it. The 5MP camera sensor comes with a 82-degree wide-angle view and f/2.2 aperture. We also expect the company to launch the truly wireless earbuds called Nubia Pods on the launch day. These Nubia Pods were announced in partnership with 1more.
