Huawei’s Next Watch Might Allow You to Write on Back of Your Hand

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

Apple Watch is certainly the best selling smartwatch in the world. Coming to Android Wear-powered smartwatches, we have seen decent smartwatches from Moto and Huawei. While Samsung dominates the Android smartphone market, it’s not the case with Android Wear smartwatches. The Samsung Gear smartwatches run on the in-house Tizen OS instead of Android Wear. In the past couple of years, there are several Android Wear smartwatches even from the fashion and traditional watch brands like Montblanc, Fossil, TAG Heuer, and Louis Vuitton.

With the lack of interest for the smartwatches in the market, Motorola didn’t even bother of bringing the successor to 2015-launched Moto 360. However, Huawei smartwatches always stand out from the crowd with the premium design and better aesthetics. The Huawei Watch 2 unveiled at the MWC 2017 is the company’s latest Android smartwatch. It was launched in India in September last year and came in Sports and Classic variants. Now, the company has filed for a patent for controlling the smartwatch in an all-new way.

According to the patent’s description, the user can control the smartwatch with the gestures made on the back of his hand. In order to achieve this, the smartwatch will be equipped with sensors for scanning the movements around it. These sensors will also help the smartwatch in recognizing gestures like tap and long press. From the below image, I guess we can just write on our hand with the finger and the text will appear on the smartwatch. With the Gear smartwatches, Samsung includes a rotatable bezel for controlling the device.

While it is easy to navigate with the bezels, the users still need to tap on the screen for inputs. We hope Huawei totally eliminates touching the small display of the smartwatch with this new technology. The successor to the Huawei Watch 2 should be launched in the coming months. Let’s wait and see if Huawei can actually offer this feature with the Huawei Watch 3 or not. Huawei will launch the 2018 flagship smartwatches on March 27th in Paris, France. The new Huawei Watch 3 might also be unveiled on the same stage. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
