Google Renames Android Wear as Wear OS, New OTA Update Coming for These Smartwatches

As rumors suggested, the Android Wear OS will be now officially called as Wear OS. With the Android Wear 2.0 update, Google brought major changes to its smartwatch OS. Apart from the Wear OS branding, the users won’t find any new changes to the operating system. According to Google, one out of every three Android smartwatch users has an iPhone. The name change to Wear OS is said to reflect Google’s technology, vision, and their smartwatch users.

The announcement comes just ahead of the Baselworld 2018 trade show that will be held from March 22nd in Switzerland. If any new changes are intended to come with the Wear OS, Google will mostly reveal them at the trade show. However, the Google Pay will be only supported on Wear OS smartwatches that come equipped with an NFC chip.
