HTC Launches Desire 12 & Desire 12+ with Liquid Surface Design & 18:9 Display
In the last few weeks, we have seen a few leaks about the upcoming HTC smartphones. The flagship HTC U12+ with Snapdragon 845 SoC is expected to be launched at the end of April or early May. There are also leaks about the Desire 12 and Desire 12+smartphones. Today, the company has silently announced both the new Desire smartphones via its official Facebook page. The two new Desire 12 smartphones are the first under the Desire series to offer 18:9 display.
The HTC Desire 12 & Desire 12+ are priced at EUR 185 (approx $227 / Rs. 14,800) & EUR 235 (approx $289 / Rs. 18,800) respectively. Both these devices will be available starting next month in Black and Silver color options. Back in March 2017, HTC introduced the Liquid Surface design with a glossy finish body. Now, the new Desire 12 and Desire 12+ also comes with the same reflective body.
With the premium looking design and mediocre specs, we don’t expect these smartphones to cost any less. The HTC Desire 12 sports a 5.5-inch IPS display with HD+ resolution and 64-bit MediaTek MT6739 quad-core processor. On the other hand, the Desire 12+ comes with 6-inch HD+ IPS display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor. They run on the latest Android Oreo out of the box with HTC Sense UI laid on top.
While the Desire 12 comes with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage, the Desire 12+ comes only in 3GB RAM variant with 32GB of internal storage. Both the devices include a MicroSD card slot for expanding the storage technically up to 2TB. While the HTC Desire 12+ sports rear-facing fingerprint sensor, the HTC Desire 12 lacks both the fingerprint sensor and face unlock.
The Desire 12 comes with a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP front camera with f/2.4 aperture. Talking about the Desire 12+, it sports 13MP + 2MP dual rear cameras with f/2.2 aperture and an 8MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture. Both the cameras on the Desire 12+ comes accompanied by a LED flash. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port.
The Desire 12 & Desire 12+ are backed by a 2,730mAh & 2965mAh batteries respectively. As of now, there is no information about the pricing or availability of these devices in the Indian market. We don’t think the company can revive by launching budget smartphones with similar specifications at such a high price.
