Twitter App Gets OLED-friendly Dark Mode Called Lights Out

Twitter App on Android and iOS already had the dark mode with blue and gray UI. While the current version of dark mode gradually decreases the strain on our eyes, it’s not that convenient to use in the dark. After requests from several users for the dark mode with a black background, the company now added a new option called Lights Out.

The Lights Out feature will turn the gray background to black. The company also changed the background of its profile picture on Twitter to black color. However, the icons in the app will be still shown in blue color. The OLED-friendly black background means the device will not utilize all the pixels and in return improves the battery life.

How to turn on ‘Lights Out’ dark mode on Twitter app:

1. Open the Twitter app on iOS or Android device.
2. Swipe right or Tap on your profile picture on the top left corner.
3. Now, select ‘Settings and privacy’ and then ‘Display & Sound’.
4. Enable Dark Mode from the display menu.
5.  By default, it will be in Dim mode.
6. To get the OLED friendly-black color background, select ‘Lights Out’ instead of Dim.

The update will be rolling starting today on both iOS and Android platforms. As of now, we have got the latest update to try out this new feature. Unlike the smartphones with OLED displays, the Lights Out mode won’t be much effective on smartphones with IPS displays. How many of you enable dark mode while using supported apps at night?
