Chinese Brand Comio Leaving Indian Smartphone Market, Product Support Status Unknown
Back in August 2017, the Chinese ODM company Topwise Communications debuted the Indian smartphone market by launching the Comio branded smartphones. Back then, the company had launched three budget smartphones – Comio C1, P1, and S1. With the lack of competitive specifications, these devices stuck with minimum exposure when compared to smartphones from other Chinese companies like Xiaomi and Honor.
While the company announced its vision to be among the top 3 smartphone brands by 2022, it is now reportedly leaving the Indian smartphone market. Just after completing its one year anniversary, the company has now filed a police complaint and is completing all the regulatory work to end its presence in India. While some Rs 200 crore worth unsold stock is piled up with distributors, there is no update over the products support for the already sold devices.
The Comio X1 with 18:9 display launched in July this year is the company’s latest smartphone to launch in India. While we are yet to receive an official statement from the company, the company’s CEO Sanjay Kalirona is blaming its Chinese parent company. We hope the company provides the after-sales support for the newly sold devices at least for the next one year. As a smartphone user, this is why we should be careful with the new smartphone brands.
