Gaming-Centric ASUS ROG Phone with Overclocked SD845 SoC & 10GB RAM Launched in India
After making its debut at the Computex 2018 in June this year, the ASUS ROG Phone is now officially launched in the Indian market becoming India’s first gaming-centric smartphone. Globally, the ROG Phone will be competing with the newly launched Xiaomi’s Blackshark Helo, Nubia’s Redmagic Mars and Razer Phone 2. With this device, the company has adopted the enhanced ergonomics which we normally see on the ROG-branded gaming laptops.
It comes with solid metal build body with diamond-cut design and includes a backlit LED logo on the rear. Talking about the specifications, the ROG Phone sports 6-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It also supports HDR playback and comes with 90Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time. Under the hood is the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform overclocked at 2.96GHz and Adreno 630 GPU.
The company said the overclocked processor is optimized for lag-free gaming and the embedded vapor-chamber will keep the device at an optimal temperature. It comes with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 2.1 Flash Storage. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and is also water resistant. In terms of optics, the ROG Phone sports 12MP + 8MP dual camera setup on the rear with 120-degree wide-angle view and an 8MP single selfie camera on the front.
It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with the customized ROG Gaming UI laid on top. The device is backed by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery and supports 20W ASUS HyperCharge technology. Going to the gaming-centric features, the ROG Phone sports two USB Type-C charging ports – one on the bottom edge and the other one is side-mounted for charging the device while gaming. The USB Type-C port can also be used for HDMI output, Gigabit LAN, and headphones.
There are two programmable ultrasonic AirTriggers on the side edges for a better gaming experience. With the ROG Phone, Asus is also bringing ROG’s Aura RGB lighting and Aura Sync support to the smartphones for the first time. The company is also providing an additional accessory called AeroActive cooler for extra cooling while playing games for longer durations. Unlike any other gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone looks like it is truly built for gamers.
The ROG Phone measures 158.8 x 76.2 x 8.6 mm and weighs 200 grams. There are dual front-facing stereo speakers with dual amplifiers and 7.1 virtual surround-sound support. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ad 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C 3.1 port, USB Type-C 2.0 port, & 3.5mm headphone jack.
