You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
CES 2017 is turning out to be an amazing event this year with lots of announcements and products to look forward. We already have a ton of different products that are launched by various manufacturers and on the same lines, ASUS also had an event yesterday where they announced the new ASUS Zenfone AR smartphone. The ASUS Zenfone AR is one of the first smartphones that is Google Tango-enabled. If you don’t know what tango is, it is Google project for Augmented Reality that requires some complex hardware requirements. The only smartphone prior to this was launched by Lenovo and ASUS has stepped up its game here with its ASUS Zenfone AR.
The ASUS Zenfone AR is a beast of a smartphone that packs some serious specs to keep things running. In terms of specs, we are looking at a 5.7″ QHD display on the front 79% screen-to-body ratio. This makes it perfect for DayDream. And yes, the smartphone is DayDream compatible as well. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC which keeps the show running and it is backed by a massive 8GB of RAM. Yes, you read that right, this smartphone has 8GB of RAM, and that makes it the first one to have that. It also has an impressive camera setup at the back which is essential for putting it’s AR features to use.
The ASUS Zenfone AR just like other Tango smartphones has three sensors at the back out of which one is for motion tracking; one is for depth-tracking, and the last one is for room mapping. For the primary camera, it has Sony IMX 318 sensors with a 23MP resolution in addition to the motion tracking and depth sensing. Well, you may think that the specs are seriously an overkill for a smartphone, but this is more like a device which should be used and appreciated for it’s AR capabilities than to be used a daily driver smartphone, which is totally possible if you are into that.
Augmented Reality (AR) by itself has not seen much of progress in the last couple of years, and as of now, there are only a limited number of apps that can take advantage of this feature. But hey, this is 2017, and we will surely be seeing some great advancements in this field this year or at least hope so. Talking about the price and the availability of this smartphone, we don’t have an exact date. However, the ASUS Zenfone AR is set to release in the second quarter of 2017. ASUS has not unveiled the price of this smartphone as, but looking at all the specs and its capabilities, expect it to cost a fortune. With that said, if you want to know more about this smartphone then be sure to stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more details on this.
