These 30 Smartphones have received the Official Android 7.0 Nougat update till date

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

Android Nougat was announced by Google back in Google I/O 2016 event, and now after all these months, few of the flagship devices are now receiving the OTA update. Yesterday Google confirmed that the I/O 2017 would be held from May 17th to May 19th in the same Shoreline Amphitheatre. While it is not confirmed, it is expected that Google will most likely announce the next version of Android which judging by the trend should have a name that starts with the letter ‘O.’ Well, let’s not get there already since we don’t have any info on this specifically.

Talking about Android Nougat, if you start to look for the devices that got the Nougat update, there are not many. In fact, only a handful of flagship devices is now seeing the update. So we decided to make a list of devices which includes both smartphones as well as tablets that received the Nougat update till now. Do make a note that these are only the devices which got the OTA officially. The devices which are yet to get or only confirmed to get are not included.

The list of smartphones and tablets that have received the Nougat update are as follows –

Pixel & Nexus Devices

HTC

Huawei & Honor

Motorola

LG

OnePlus

Samsung

Sony

Xiaomi

UMi

As mentioned earlier, the devices like Google Pixel/XL, LG V20, Huawei Mate 9, etc. are not included in the list since they were already running Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box. Also, the devices which are confirmed for the update but are yet to receive are also not included in the list here. Once those smartphones/ tablets will receive the update, they will be listed here so be sure to bookmark this page if you wish to stay updated on the what’s happening on the OTA front. Also, do make a note that few of the devices which are running Android Nougat 7.0 and above.

Incompatibe Devices with Nougat

When Android 7.0 Nougat was announced back in 2016, it was mentioned that this version of software supports the Vulkan API for high-end gaming graphics experience. However, this requires the hardware that can support Open GL ES 3.1. This mandatory support was finalized by Google themselves just before the introduction of Android 7.0 Nougat. Hence the support for Nougat now completely depends on this as well which indirectly means that devices running older SoCs like Snapdragon 800 or 801 from 2014 are incompatible with Nougat.

Installing custom ROMs for unofficial updates

One way of getting the Nougat on your smartphone or tablet for which Nougat is not announced yet officially is by flashing custom ROM. There are a variety of different ROMs out there in the market with the support of the same. CyanogenMod a.k.a LineageOS 14.1 is already available for a couple of smartphones already. Hence, if you are one of those impatient ones, then this is your only way of getting the Nougat experience as soon as possible. However, be sure to follow the steps carefully for flashing if you don’t really know what you are doing.
