ASUS hosted an event yesterday at the consumer electronic show (CES) 2017, and they had some exciting announcements to make. The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturing company launched two new smartphones yesterday. One is the much ambitious ZenFone AR which is the Google Tango-enabled smartphone, and the other one is the ZenFone 3 Zoom smartphone. You can read everything about the ZenFone AR here, but now let’s take a look at the ZenFone 3 Zoom. As the name suggests, this is a camera-centric smartphone, and it is more like a successor to the previously launched ZenFone Zoom.
The ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom leaves no stone unturned with this smartphone when it comes to photography. First of all, following the current trend of featuring a dual rear camera setup, ASUS has decided to bring that as well to the ZenFone 3 Zoom. In fact, the USP of this smartphone is that it comes with Dual 12MP rear shooters out of which the secondary 12MP shooter has 2.3x optical zoom as well. Now this might sound very similar since the iPhone 7 Plus also has a similar kind of a setup going on. Well, now that is a strange resemblance as the ZenFone 3 Zoom also has a feature similar to Portrait Mode where it will add a natural depth of field effect to the images. However, don’t expect this feature to ship out of the box as the company states that it will be added after a software update.
Now talking about the specs of the ZenFone 3 Zoom, it sports a 5.5″ FHD AMOLED display on the front with the Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC which is coupled with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. As for the camera, it has a 12MP Sony IMX362 sensor with an F1.7 aperture as the main camera and a 12MP shooter with 2.3X optical zoom as the secondary camera. The main shooter also has 4-axis OIS and 3-axis EIS along with Manual and Raw support as well. The selfie camera on the front is a 13MP shooter with an F2.0 aperture. The whole package is kept powered by a massive 5,000mAh battery which is good for 6.4 hours of 4K video recording or 42 days of standby.
The ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom comes with a fingerprint scanner at the back just like other ZenFone 3 devices and it will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box while the company has promised an update for Android 7.0 Nougat for later this year. The ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom will is scheduled to launch in the month of February and it will be available in three colors i.e. Black, Silver, Rose Gold. We don’t have any info on the pricing of this smartphone as of now, however, if you want to know more about it then we suggest you stay tuned to PhoneRadar for details on the same.
