Sony’s Next Flagship Smartphone Might Ditch the 3.5mm Audio Jack

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

From the past few of years, Sony has been continuously launching the smartphones with the Omni Balance design. While we all got excited with the launch of Sony Xperia Z smartphone in 2013, the company hasn’t made any major changes in the recent times. All the major flagship smartphones in the second half of 2017 came with 18:9 displays and dual cameras, there are no standout features introduced with the 2017 Xperia smartphones.

The devices feature large bezels on the top and bottom of the display. In the U.S, the Xperia smartphones missed the side-facing fingerprint sensors. However, the Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia L2 smartphones launched at the CES 2018 came with rear-facing fingerprint sensors. Now, the FCC listing of the upcoming flagship smartphone from Sony revealed it to miss the 3.5mm audio jack.

The device is listed the model number PY7-21831A and features single USB Type-C for both charging and connecting headsets. It sports a 5.7-inch display and measures 152.79 mm tall and 72.42 mm wide. We expect the company to opt for the 18:9 aspect ratio instead of the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone also supports the major 3G and LTE bands. We might see these changes starting the Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium smartphone.

The Xperia XZ Premium was announced at the MWC 2017, and it came with a 4K HDR display. In the camera department, the device offered a 19MP Motion Eye sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 4K video recording. For selfies, there is a 13MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 lens and 90-degree wide angle lens. Both the front and rear cameras supported 5-axis SteadyShot stabilization. The rear camera is also capable of recording slow-motion videos at 960 fps. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details.
