You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
A couple of weeks back, we have spotted the 3C listing of a new Vivo smartphone with the model number X20 Plus UD. The Vivo X20 Plus UD is expected to be the same Vivo X20 launched last year, but features the under display fingerprint sensor. The company also showcased this under display fingerprint scanning technology at the CES 2018 held earlier month in Las Vegas, Nevada. Today, it has officially announced the Vivo X20 Plus UD in China.
However, the pricing and the availability details are not yet known. The X20 Plus UD is the first ever commercial smartphone to feature the under display fingerprint sensor. Vivo is using the latest Synaptics Clear ID FS9500 sensor. While Vivo will be selling the X20 Plus UD in China and there is no announcement from other manufacturers about the usage of under display fingerprint sensors.
Compared to the regular capacitive fingerprint sensors, the under display fingerprint sensor will be slightly slower to unlock the device. While the company launched the Vivo X20 and X20 Plus in 2017, the under display fingerprint sensor is only limited to the larger variant. Vivo has tweaked the FunTouch OS to show the fingerprint pattern on the display to make sure the user places his finger above the sensor area.
Apart from the removing the rear-facing fingerprint sensor, there are no other changes between the Vivo X20 Plus and Vivo X20 Plus UD. It still runs on Android 7.1 Nougat based in-house FunTouch OS. On the front is the 6.43-inch FullView AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It comes powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz.
There is 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can be expandable up to 256GB via a MicroSD card slot. In terms of optics, the Vivo X20 Plus UD sports 24MP + 5MP dual camera setup on the rear with LED flash and a 24MP single camera on the front for selfies. As seen on X20 Plus, the primary 24MP sensor on the rear of the X20 Plus UD also supports OIS. It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G VoLTE connectivity.
The smartphone is backed by a 3,800mAh non-removable battery and supports fast charging. The pricing of the device is yet to be announced. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
