IFA 2018 – What We Expect To Launch From The Top Smartphone Brands
We are in the second half of the year and its time to talk about IFA which is said to be the world’s leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances. The IFA 2018 will be held in Berlin from August 31st to September 5th. Here, let’s talk about the expected announcements from the largest smartphone brands.
• Samsung
Earlier this month, Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 9 smartphone and Galaxy Watch smartwatch at the Unpacked event in New York. It also launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 just before the Unpacked event. At the IFA 2018, we will be a lot of announcements in the consumer products category. However, the company should also launch the successors for its fitness trackers and audio products. Most of these products will come integrated with its in-house AI assistant, Bixby. The Galaxy Home speaker powered by Bixby 2.0 will surely grab the eyeballs.
• Huawei
Huawei is expected to unveil the all-new HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset built on 7nm FinFET process. It will be world’s first commercially available 7nm mobile chipset. The Mate 20 series will be the first Huawei smartphones to use this new chipset. From the recent teaser images, we also expect them to launch the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro smartphones in new color options. Apart from smartphones, Huawei might also bring an upgraded version of the MediaPad tablets and Matebook.
• Sony
Sony is one of the few brands who has officially confirmed to launch their next generation smartphones at the IFA 2018. Based on the leaks, the company might unveil Xperia XZ3 and XZ3 Compact smartphones as the successors to Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. Compared to their predecessors, the new Xperia XZ3 smartphones seems to be a minor upgrade. From the leaked images, the Xperia XZ3 looks similar to Xperia XZ2. Both the devices come powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC and also sports dual cameras on the rear.
• Blackberry
After launching the Blackberry KEY2 smartphone, the company has started teasing a new smartphone with the QWERTY keyboard. The leaks confirmed it to be called the Blackberry KEY2 LE. While the design of the KEY2 LE looks similar to KEY2, the upcoming actually comes with less powerful specifications. The minor compromises will take KEY2 LE to cost lower than the ridiculously priced KEY2.
• HTC
While there is no official confirmation, HTC is expected to launch the HTC U12 Life smartphone. The device has been in the rumor mills from the last few weeks. Unlike its elder sibling, we expect the U12 Life to come with physical hardware buttons than the virtual ones. It is said to sport Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. On the front, the device will be coming with a 6-inch Full HD+ 18:9 display.
• LG
LG’s upcoming flagship smartphone will be the LG V40 ThinQ. While there is no confirmation over its launch at IFA 2018, it is rumored to come with triple camera setup on the rear and also dual front cameras. Talking about other products, the company has launched the world’s first 8K OLED TV. We also expect them to come up with a new Wear OS-powered smartwatch.
The press events will begin later today and will be seeing continuous launch events. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for complete details of the products that will be announced at IFA 2018.
