5 Tips to Make your Smartphone Battery Last till the End of the Day
Smartphones are the most useful piece of gadget that we own, which helps us get our jobs done easily. We use it for many things like getting in touch with someone, finding an address or phone number, navigating somewhere, taking a picture, and all that fun stuff. So obviously while purchasing a smartphone, we often think about all these features and make sure we buy something which is valuable for our money. But one of the main features that many of us done consider while buying one is the battery life.
Regardless of which smartphone you own, if the battery life of the device is not good, then it is practically of no use. Having a high-end processor with a DSLR like camera etc. is good, but if you run out of battery then obviously none of that good hardware is going to be of any use. Yes, you can use a power bank to charge your phone again but who wants to carry a power bank in your pocket daily. If you are on of those, who is facing an issue with battery life on your smartphone, then you have come to the right place.
Here are five tips that can help your phone’s battery last all day.
- Use Power-saver mode:
-
All the modern smartphone these days comes with a Power-saver mode. Smartphone manufacturers know how quickly the battery can drain and hence they have taken steps to mitigate that via Power saver settings. Not all smartphones have these features, but most of them do. This feature works differently for every other smartphone which depends on the OEMS. But all of them do the same thing which is, save battery.
Once turned on, the software tweaks the settings and makes sure your battery lasts longer than usual. With HTC 10 for example, you have two power saving options; Regular Power-saving mode and the other one is “Extreme Power-saving mode”. The regular mode can be turned on anytime and can help save you more battery, but the latter one can be very useful in some cases. Extreme Power-saving mode turns the phone down to its barest functionality and enabling it to run for hours even if you’re down to your last 20%.
- Evaluate your apps:
-
Certain apps are well optimized for your smartphones and go easy on the battery, but on the other hand, certain apps like Facebook can chew through your battery life. It is not all that hard to determine which apps are burning through your battery life. In Android head into ‘Settings’ > ‘Battery’ and scroll down. You should see a list of apps and their battery usage percentage. In iOS that can be found under Settings > Battery. And now that you know which app is killing your battery life, you can take necessary steps and resolve this issue. This can significantly help you save more battery.
- Use Airplane Mode:
-
This feature isn’t only for use in Airplane. It happens to be a quick way of turning off some of the connectivity features on your phone. If your phone’s standby time is not the best, then turning this mode on will do wonders for you. Turning this mode when you go to bed at night, will leave you with mostly same battery level in the morning. Also using this feature when you are not going to use your phone for an extended period of time can also reduce the drain.
- Turn off the Hardware that you are not using:
-
Leaving Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and location services on, all the time will drain your battery quickly. Even though Bluetooth is not going to drain that much battery, but NFC, GPS, etc. is going to leave a huge effect. It’s as easy as pulling down your notification menu and tap the settings which you want to turn off.
- Ditching the Live Wallpapers:
-
Live wallpapers can be visually very appealing, but these often drain your battery a lot. Having a heavy live wallpaper running in the background can quickly kill your battery. Not just this, theme apps can also do a lot of damage. Of course, they make your phone look pretty or the way you want it to look, but it can be hard on the battery.
- Other Quick Tips:
-
If your phone has an AMOLED screen (like most Samsung devices), use a dark-colored background. Black wallpaper can save your battery because AMOLED screens only illuminate the colored pixels. And turning off auto/adaptive brightness can also help you save some battery since auto-brightness is usually way brighter than you need. Shortening the screen on time to what is practical for you is also a good practice. And if it is not mandatory then turn off the vibration & haptic feedback on your smartphone.
Note that, your phone’s battery life also ultimately depends on how you use your smartphone. These tips are given just to help you get some extra usage out of your smartphone, but eventually, it comes down to your personal usage. Your smartphone might also be infected with some kind of a virus or malware, which can also drain your battery indefinitely. Check out our article on how to remove malware like “Godless” here.
