Motorola to not send Monthly Security Patches Software Updates for Moto Z or Moto G4

moto leak

Motorola announced the new Moto Z and the Moto Z Force last month, and now both the devices are officially launched with Verizon in the United States and will soon be available as unlocked smartphones across the globe. With that being said, now the company has come out, and they have now addressed the whole update situation on their smartphones. Android’s monthly security patches are a thing now, and we have been hearing about them a lot.

But after all, we might not be seeing them that often on the new devices from Motorola. Yes, addressing to this monthly security updates, the company said that, it’s “difficult”, and hence they are deciding not to commit to that as of now. Yes, it was indeed reported by much earlier that they might be rolling them out but according to the source, when Motorola was asked about this, the answer was big “no.” Well, it is not a deal breaker as many would think it is.

We all know that security patches are important in terms of privacy and security concerns, and hence the company said, these updates will eventually reach the users but it might not as timely one is expecting them to be. Motorola addressed the situation and stated they the company does understand how important these updates are and hence they will eventually be rolled out the users. As mentioned earlier, they said they might be delayed a little and the reason for the same being the amount of testing and approvals necessary to deploy them.

So doing all this on a monthly basis might get little tight for them. And also the same applies to the Moto G4 as well. So looking at the current versions now, the 2015 Moto X was just updated to the May security patch and the Moto Z is also currently in the May update. So basically, even the newer device is missing two months of security patches. This might soon be changed as the company promised that the updates would eventually reach the users. So stay tuned for more details on this in future.
