Apple Reportedly Said to Launch New TV ‘Dongle’ For Streaming

The Cupertino tech giant is reportedly going to a launch a new low-priced ‘dongle’ in the upcoming year 2019. The dongle would most likely be similar to what Google’s Chromecast or Amazon’s FireTV Stick offer to the consumers globally. While the tech giant has its own Apple TV already, it is widely speculated that the new ‘dongle’ is expected to be cost-effective to pull more consumer base.

According to the report, the people familiar with this project have reportedly said that people could directly plug this ‘dongle’ into their TV sets quite similar to a Chromecast or FireTV service. The report further suggests that ‘Apple being Apple’ the dongle would be exclusive to Apple TV, iPhones and iPads only. While the contraries like FireTV or Chromecast are available for cross platforms.

Ever since the launch of Apple TV, it is known that the service is pretty expensive when compared to the what Chromecast or FireTV stick usually offer at the much lower price. To change this and to reach out to a broader global audience, Apple would most likely be launching this low-priced ‘dongle’ sometime next year, the report said.

However, this report comes right after the recent rumours of Apple starting its own forthcoming video service next year. The report also suggests that original shows made on the service would also be free for all Apple device users, provided they use this upcoming ‘dongle’ or the standard Apple TV service. Do note that this report is entirely based on speculations and there isn’t any official confirmation from Apple regarding this yet.
