Chinese Company Starts Mass Production of Solid-State Batteries

Well, according to Industry sources there are reports of a Chinese startup that may have found a way to produce solid-state batteries in bulk. The firm called as Qing Tao Energy Development Co. Ltd that comes from the technical Tsinghua University in China is led by Nan Cewen, who is also a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and has invested One Billion Yuan on the solid-state battery project and production line has become operational in the city of Kunshan in East China’s Jiangsu Province. Solid state batteries can solve all the problems with fast charging, longevity and other aspects of batteries. Very soon we could see this technology to be used on Smartphones and computers but the time frame has not been confirmed.

The Company is now cable of producing 0.1 GWh solid-state batteries every year and have an energy density of over 400 Wh/kg. The company also plans to produce 0.7 GWh annually and the energy density on a single unit is 30 percent more than the latest lithium-ion batteries. Nan Cewen also announced the line’s operation and said that the batteries will be first utilized on special equipment and high-end digital products.

He also said that the company has engaged with many of the large automobiles manufactures to produce batteries for electric vehicles by 2020. The company was founded in the year 2014 with many Ph.D. graduates from Tsinghua University with the insight on the market prospect for solid-state battery technologies in the country. Furthermore, he also said that getting rid of the liquid electrolytes battery’s can decrease the chance of flammables and produce flexible packs.
