Huawei Mate 9 With Leica Branded Dual Lens Camera Launched in the U.S for $600

Huawei officially launched the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porsche Design smartphones in November last year. Along with these two devices, the company also launched the Mate 9 Pro smartphone in the China and are already on sale. At the CES 2016, the third largest smartphone maker, Huawei announced the availability of the Mate 9 smartphone in the U.S market. Without any contracts, the device costs $600 and can be purchased from Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, and B&H Photo. It comes in Space Gray and Moonlight Silver color options. Though the availability of the Mate 9 is slightly delayed in the U.S, now the company is additionally offering Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa with the upcoming software update.
With the Mate 9, the users can ask Alexa to set alarm, open up apps, play music, and ask for directions to reach a certain place. This is the first Huawei smartphone to run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with highly customized EMUI 5.0 laid on top. Apart from Alexa, the Mate 9 launching in the U.S is the same device that was already available in China. The device sports a 5.9-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and a pixel density of 373ppi. Under the hood is the Huawei Kirin 960 octa-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz and coupled with Mali G71 MP8 GPU. It includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that can be further expandable upto additional 256GB.
Coming to the camera department, the Mate 9 sports a Leica certified dual lens cameras on the rear with 20MP and 12MP sensors. It also includes OIS, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, CAF, and Laser autofocus. On the front is an 8MP autofocus camera on the front with f/1.9 aperture. It is backed by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery with Huawei SuperCharge fast charging technology. Just below the rear camera module is the circular fingerprint sensor. Connectivity options include 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C port. The Mate 9 also sports IR Blaster that can be used for controlling consumer electronics like AC and TV. It measures 156.9 x 78.9 x 7.9 mm and weighs 190 grams.
At the CES 2016, the Huawei’s sub-brand Honor also launched Honor 6X smartphone. It is the same device that was earlier launched as Mate 9 Lite in few Asian markets. It is priced at $250 and also comes with dual rear cameras. Unlike the Mate 9, the Mate 9 Lite packs lesser resolution cameras and lacks the Leica branding. The device is powered by Kirin 655 SoC and packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based EMUI 4.0 out of the box. The company also announced to release the Android 7.0 Nougat based OTA update in the next few months.
