Reliance Jio Keep providing Free Services after 31 March 2017, Claims a Report

We have good news for Reliance Jio users. According to industry experts, Jio may continue providing its services after 31 March 2017 as well, but with a small amount of charge. The company might bring a tariff plan worth INR 100 for customers. In which it will give all the services for free like unlimited voice and video calling, SMS, data, and apps. This new INR 100 plan will be applicable for another three months after March. And will continue to give free access to company’s services until June this year. We all know that Jio’s Happy New Year plan is going to expire on 31 March 2017. But with this new INR 100 plan, these free services will be extended up to June 30.

Till now, the company is offering all of its services without any charge to its customers. That’s why other telecom companies are complaining about Jio’s policies. Even Airtel went ahead and complained to Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) about Jio’s free services calling it a violation of rules. Airtel even accused Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for being mute spectator and allowing Jio to play its game. After that, Idea Cellular also joined the league and supported Airtel’s petition and criticized Jio’s move.

A person familiar with matter told that “We have to start making revenue.” Jio can not offer its free services lifetime. But if Jio starts charging its customers, it might lose many of its customers. According to a report, many Jio customers use it as their secondary SIM card and have not stopped using their old SIM card. Although if company bring INR 100 plan. Then maybe it will not lose its customers. Because many people will be willing to pay INR 100 for those free services. But still, it will lose some of its customers.

A US based brokerage firm’s senior analyst Chris Lane said, “We expect many will go back to using their primary number if the (free) offer is withdrawn, and Jio could well lose over half its subscribers if it starts charging more without fixing the call drop problem.” Another person who doesn’t want to disclose his name said,“But it has to come up with cheaper tariff because other incumbents have already launched reduced packs. This price war is a burden on the company (telcos) and the government loses on license fee as well,”

Within four months of launch, the company gained around 72 million subscribers in India which is a record for any telecom player. Jio started its services in India on September 5. Due to Jio’s free services, the condition forced other top telecom companies to slash the prices of their tariff plans. What do you think about it?
