Google Combines Google Wallet and Android Pay to Launch Google Pay

Back in 2015, Google launched the Android Pay even though it had the Google Wallet service. While both these services functioned independently till date, Google now announced the Google Pay by combining Android Pay and Google Wallet. As of now, the existing users of Android Pay and Google Wallet will only see a change in logo. According to Google, combining both the services will result in the faster checkout process.

In the coming weeks, the Google Pay can be used for making payments online, in-store, and across Google products, as well as when you’re paying friends. The company also mentioned offering a new service for making payments to friends via Google Pay and India-exclusive Google Tez. In December 2017, Apple also launched the person to person payments for the Apple Pay customers in the U.S.

The Google Pay is said to be already available on few apps and websites including Airbnb, Dice, and Fandango. There are offers from the selected brands like $10 off any $50+ order at B&H or $5 off a Fandango ticket by using Google Pay. Apart from Google Pay, the company also had the UPI-based payment service called Tez. It was launched in India in September 2017 and works on Android and iOS devices.

Google Tez comes pre-loaded on smartphones from several brands like Lava, Micromax, Nokia, and Panasonic. With the lack of NFC-based payment terminals, both Android Pay and Apple Pay haven’t been launched in India from the past few years. However, the Samsung Pay, which works on both NFC and MST technologies, was launched in early 2017. It also has the liter version called Samsung Pay Mini.
