ZTE Axon M Foldable Smartphone with Dual Displays to Launch in China on January 16th

Last year, ZTE came up with an interesting device called Axon M with dual displays. The ZTE Axon M foldable smartphone is separated by an ugly looking hinge. However, we are seeing this kind of form factor for the first time on a commercial device and its successor might come out later this year with some fine refinements. Back in October, it was launched exclusively on AT&T in the U.S for $725. Now, the company has confirmed to launch the same ZTE Axon M smartphone in China on January 16th.
The local pricing and availability of the device will be announced on the launch day. Last week, it got certified by TENAA, the Chinese equivalent to FCC, with similar specifications as on the U.S variant. In terms of OS, the Chinese variant will lack the Google Play Services and might come with a totally different UI. As of now, there is no information about the availability of theAxon M foldable smartphone in other markets.
ZTE Axon M Foldable Smartphone with Dual Displays Launched in the U.S
Earlier: (October 18th, 2017) – As announced earlier, ZTE launched the new Axon M smartphone today in the U.S. The device sports dual displays, but not the foldable display as demoed by Lenovo at its 2017 Tech World event. However, the user can fold the tablet-like device in half and can be used as a smartphone. Earlier to this, the company launched the high-end smartphones under the Axon series. While the new Axon M comes in a new form factor, Samsung has been launching the flagship clamshell smartphones in China with dual displays.
Samsung also confirmed to unveil the foldable smartphone under the Galaxy Note in 2018. Talking about the Axon M, the smartphones comes with dual 5.2-inch displays which can be unfolded into a single 6.75-inch display. From the images, we can still spot the thin bezel between the two displays. The multi-window feature on this device is called as Dual Mode and the user can open different apps on each display for perfect multi-tasking. With the Extended Mode, the two displays will work like a single large display.
There is also a Mirror mode, where the user can stream the same content on two displays when folded. Both the displays offer Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. There is a single 20MP Sony IMX350 sensor with f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, and dual LED flash. Since it comes with dual displays, the single camera can be used as front and rear cameras. With the AKM 4962 audio chip and Dolby Atmos support, the Axon M offers Hi-Fi audio output through the dual speakers and headphones.
It is powered by Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clocked at 2.15Ghz and comes coupled with Adreno 510 GPU and 4GB of RAM. There is 64GB of internal storage that can be expandable up to 256GB via a MicroSD card slot. The power button placed on the edge of the device comes with an integrated fingerprint sensor. The Axon M is backed by a 3,180mAh battery that is rated to give up to 28.7 hours of talk time and lasts up to 290 hours of talk time. It also supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology.
It runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box and there is no confirmation of the Android 8.0 oreo update. The Axon M is priced at $725 (approx Rs. 47,200) in the US and will be exclusively sold through AT&T. ZTE also mentioned the device to soon launch in Europe, Japan, and China.
