Sony Xperia XZ3 with OLED HDR Display & Android 9.0 Pie Officially Launched
At the IFA 2018, Sony has unveiled its latest smartphone called Sony Xperia XZ3. This time around, there is no mention of the Xperia XZ3 Compact. The new Xperia XZ3 is the successor to Xperia XZ2 launched at MWC. There isn’t much difference in terms of design between these two devices. While the Xperia XZ2 is the world’s first to come powered Snapdragon 845 chipset, the new Xperia XZ3 is the first smartphone to run on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.
The Xperia XZ3 is also the first Sony smartphone to use OLED display panel. While the device continues to feature the dedicated shutter button, there is no 3.5mm audio jack. On the front is the 6-inch OLED display with Quad HD+ (2880 x 1440 pixels) resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio, and HDR playback support. There is also a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the top. It comes powered by 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform coupled with Adreno 630 GPU.
There is 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that can be expandable up to 512GB using a MicroSD card. It runs on Android 9.0 Pie with Xperia UI on top. In terms of optics, the Xperia XZ3 comes with a 19MP single rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1.22μm pixel size, 5-axis stabilization. It can record videos at 4K resolution and 1080p slow-motion videos at 1080p resolution. For selfies, there is a 13MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture.
With the Xperia XZ3, Sony is also introducing the new Side Sense feature that works similar to Edge Sense on HTC and Pixel devices. The device is also water and dust resistant, thanks to the IP68 certifications. It sports stereo speakers with S-Force Front Surround technology. On the rear, we can also spot a circular fingerprint sensor. The Xperia XZ3 is backed by a 3300mAh non-removable battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and Wireless charging.
Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C port. It measures 158 x 73 x 9.9 mm and weighs 193 grams. The Sony Xperia XZ3 will be available in Black, Silver White, Forest Green and Bordeaux Red color options.
