Xiaomi not Expanding to US, UK while servicing 30 Developing Markets
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Xiaomi is one of the first names which comes to people’s mind when they are looking for a budget smartphone or a budget variant of some sort of smart home accessory. Popular in developing markets like India, Xiaomi has managed to tap deep into the roots of these markets with their quality product offerings at a budget price. However, if you ask someone about Xiaomi in the U.S or in Europe, they probably will recognize the brand but they won’t be interested to know any further since they know for a fact that these products are not going to make it to their markets anyway.
While there were a lot of speculations surrounding this, it has now being confirmed (more or less) that Xiaomi is not really looking for expansion into the U.S or in Europe, anytime soon. Yes, the same has been confirmed by the company’s Global VP Wang Xiang in an interview with Engadget. The executive admitted that the U.S market expansion is not their priority as of now.
Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review – Best for the Price
Considering the fact that more and more people in the U.S are now curious to get their hands on these Xiaomi devices, it is not a good news for them at all. Who doesn’t want a smartphone with flagship specs adn features for half the price? After all, brands like OnePlus, etc. have managed to make their mark in these markets due to that very own reason, to begin with.
It looks like Xiaomi does not want to take the same route as that of brands like OnePlus did with a direct-to-customer route. This route has been successful not only just OnePlus but also some other emerging brands like Honor. Xiaomi thinks that taking such a move will affect the brands’ reputation and it could also hurt the company’s relationships with the carriers. Hence Xiaomi is waiting for the right opportunity to enter the market.
As a matter of fact, the company does have a lot on its plate already. Xiaomi is already a trusted and known brand in over 30 regions and most of it as mentioned earlier are developing nations like India, etc. The growth is definitely more than the U.S markets here and the company can also make a pretty penny out of this. And having to enter U.S markets also means customizing the handsets to support U.S carriers, etc. which is only going to cost them more resources.
However, that doesn’t mean that the people over at U.S will never get their hands on a Xiaomi product ever. It just a matter of time until we see some new announcement from the company. Having said that, we would love to know what do you think about this? Do you think Xiaomi has a better chance of excelling in the U.S market as well?
