Samsung said to be working on a display with curves on all four sides

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

Samsung is known for pushing all the boundaries when it comes to display technology. The company first introduced the Note Edge smartphone with the Edge display. Ever since then, we have been seeing the edge displays on pretty much each and every Galaxy flagships. However, with the Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus, the company has really pushed all the boundaries by introducing the infinity display. Having said that, it now looks like we will be seeing some new development with the Samsung displays very soon.

Yes, according to the latest report out of South Korea, it looks like Samsung is working on a display with curves on all four sides. This essentially means that, in addition to the curves on the two sides, these new displays will also have curves on the top as well as the bottom. Now, this might sound insane, but this kind of design will allow the device to have a screen-to-body ratio of over 98%. For reference, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus only have a screen-to-body ratio over little over 83-percent.

The existence of the top and the bottom bezels on the Galaxy S8 might not bother most people, however, few people would be interested to see how the device will look if we get rid of the top and the bottom bezels as well. And that’s exactly what the folks over at Samsung and LG are trying to figure out. It looks like both the companies are trying to find out ways to create a truly bezel-less phone. While this might sound very intriguing, it is not nearly as easy to implement.

The source reports that there are certain technical difficulties and limitations as of now and hence, we might not even see these displays until next year. Also, when all the four corners of the display are curved, it renders the corners useless. The source also states that the Cupertino-based tech giant also settled for a flat OLED panel for the highly anticipated iPhone 8 due to these technical difficulties. And now, LG and Samsung seems to be working on resolving this issue and if everything works well, then we should be seeing some sort of development here in coming months.

Having said that, if the next year’s Galaxy S9 comes with a curved display on all four sides then it could be the most stunning smartphone that we will be seeing next year. Also, we would love to know your thoughts on this. What do you think about having a display with curves on al four sides? Would you be interested in buying and using one?
