Best Upcoming Smartphones of May 2017 – Expected Specs & Features
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Most of the major smartphone manufacturers already launched their latest flagship smartphones. In May, we might see a couple of high-end smartphones along with quite a few affordable smartphones. However, few of those devices will be limited to the Chinese market, and we hope to see them in other markets as well. Along with the new launches, the earlier launched flagship device like Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, and Xiaomi Mi 6 will go on sale in the month of May.
Xiaomi Mi Max 2
The first look of the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was recently revealed by a couple of leaked images. Just like its predecessor, the Mi Max 2 also comes with an all-metal body and the antenna bands are placed on the top and bottom edge. The 3.5mm Audio port along with IR blaster are placed on the top edge, while the loudspeaker and the USB Type-C Port can be spotted on the bottom edge. Though it was rumored to launch alongside the Xiaomi Mi 6, we expect to go official in the next few weeks. The device will pack either a Snapdragon 626 SoC or the Snapdragon 660 SoC. It will be available in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants and might come in different storage options as well. As seen with the Mi Max, the Mi Max 2 also comes with a 6.44-inch Full HD display and is said to run on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. With a bigger form factor, the Mi Max 2 might also come with a huge 5,000mAh battery. In the camera department, there will be a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.
Moto E4 & E4 Plus
This year, Motorola has launched the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus with some good value for money specifications. According to the recent leaks, soon we will see the launch of Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus smartphones as the successor to the Moto E3 Power. The Moto E4 sports a 5-inch HD display whereas the Moto E4 Plus comes with a slightly bigger 5.5-inch display with the same HD resolution. Both the device comes powered by MediaTek MT6737M quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. The Moto E4 comes 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, while the one variant of the Moto E4 Plus come with 3GB RAM. The devices will be running on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, and there will be no bloatware apps. The Moto E4 is backed by a 2,800mAh battery and sports 8MP and 5MP cameras. On the other hand, the Moto E4 Plus includes a bigger 5,000mAh battery and comes with a 13MP higher resolution rear camera. Both the front and rear cameras will come accompanied with LED flash.
Moto C & C Plus
Until last year, the Moto E devices are the most affordable smartphones from the Moto brand. Now in 2017, the company is bringing a new Moto C series to offer even more affordable devices. The devices come with a polycarbonate shell and look bulky. As seen on the recent Moto devices, the plastic built Moto C also comes with a large camera module holding the rear camera and a LED flash. The Moto C is said to come in 3G and 4G variants while the Moto C Plus will be sold only in the 4G variant. Both the Moto C and C Plus comes with a 5-inch display and will be powered by MediaTek chipset. The leaks suggest the Moto C to feature 1GB RAM, 5MP rear camera, and a 2MP front camera. Talking about the Moto C Plus, there will be 2GB of RAM, 8MP camera, and the same 2MP selfie camera. Though the devices come with lower resolution camera, then include LED flash for capturing photos in low-light conditions. Beneath the display, we can spot the three capacitive navigation buttons.
OnePlus 5
OnePlus 3 launched in mid-2016 has been one of the best flagship smartphones of 2016. Later, the company launched the OnePlus 3T with an upgraded processor and few other improved specs. Just after the OnePlus 3T launch, we reported about the next-gen flagship device from OnePlus to be called OnePlus 5. The company will be skipping the OnePlus 4 naming since the number 4 is considered as unlucky in China. While there is official information about the device, the recently leaks suggested the OnePlus 5 to pack dual camera setup on the rear. While the authenticity of the leaked image is not known, we can see the dual cameras placed vertically in the top middle. Below the dual camera setup is the LED flash. As seen on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, the OnePlus 5 might sports power button on the right edge and the alert slider and volume rocker on the left edge. We expect it to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC and will be running on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.
HTC U 11
HTC has officially confirmed to launch a new smartphone in the U-series on May 16th. We expect the company to launch the HTC U (a.k.a HTC Ocean) on that day; the latest report suggests this device to be named as HTC U 11. It will be launched in white, black, blue, red, and silver color options. Evan Blass has tweeted a video showing the Edge Sense feature that recognizes the gestures on the frame of the device. It is mentioned to come with a glossy finish body as seen on the earlier launched HTC U Ultra and U Play smartphones. On the front is a 5.5-inch Quad HD display and packs Snapdragon 835 SoC and 4GB of RAM. It will be running on the latest HTC Sense UI 9 based on Android 7.1.1. Nougat. Based on the market conditions, the company will be launching the single and dual SIM variants. In the camera department, there will be a 12MP rear camera and a 16MP selfie camera.
