Vivo in India has launched a new smartphone i.e. the Vivo V5s here at an event in New Delhi, India. As we had exclusively reported earlier, the company has launched this device at a price of 19,990 INR which is slightly higher than the Vivo V5. At this price, the Vivo V5s comes with a more storage i.e. 64GB instead of the 32GB on the Vivo V5. It also has some new modes for the selfie including a group selfie mode. Both the cameras are also wider than the one on the Vivo V5. The software is slightly polished this time around with some new features like App clone. etc.
In terms of hardware, there’s not a lot that has changed. However, if you wish you know what is different, then be sure to check out our full comparison which we had covered in details here. Earlier – After launching the Vivo V5 with 20MP Moonlight camera, Vivo came up with the high-end Vivo V5 Plus with dual selfie cameras. It features a 20MP + 8MP camera setup on the front for capturing high quality selfies along with the wide-angle view. A couple of weeks back, the company also launched the Vivo V5 Plus IPL Edition in all-new Black color. Now, the company is bringing a new smartphone in the V5 series to the Indian market. The device is called as Vivo V5s and will be officially launched on April 27th. While the Vivo V5 came only in Gold color, the upcoming Vivo V5s will be available in Matte Black color.
Both the Vivo V5 and V5s comes with similar design and also packs almost similar hardware. It sports a metal built unibody design with a 2.5D curved glass laid on the front. The device comes with a 5.5-inch HD display and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass on top. Under the hood is the MediaTek octa-core processor and we expect it to be the same MT6750 chipset which was used on Vivo V5. It packs 4GB RAM along with 64GB of internal storage. There is a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion up to additional 128GB. The device will be still running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based FunTouch OS 2.6.
The 3,000mAh non-removable battery will also remain same on both the Vivo V5 and V5s smartphones. Beneath the display, we can find the physical home button with fingerprint sensor. We don’t expect the device to feature NFC for authorizing mobile payment services. The cameras will be the USP of the device, especially the selfie camera on the front. As seen on the Vivo V5, the Vivo V5s also feature a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. On the rear is a 13MP primary camera with PDAF and f/2.2 aperture. It will measure 153.8 x 75.5 x 7.55 mm and weighs 154 grams. It includes a hybrid SIM slot offering dual SIM dual standby support with 4G VoLTE connectivity.
On the connectivity front, the device offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3.5mm Audio port, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. With the change in the color and the doubled onboard storage, the Vivo V5s will be priced at an MRP of Rs. 19,990. Currently, the Vivo V5 is retailing between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 16,000 and the new Vivo V5 Plus with dual selfie cameras is launched at Rs. 25,990. Since the official launch is less than two weeks away, stay tuned on Phone Radar for the official confirmation of the pricing and the availability.
