Telegram and Instagram Blocked in Iran, Here’s How You Can Still Access
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
In the recent years, we are more frequently seeing the internet blockage during the protests. It happened in many states in India and many other countries internationally. Now, the latest country to put restrictions on the Internet is Iran, the second most populous country in the Middle-east. The instant messaging app, Telegram and the photo-sharing app, Instagram are banned in the country and the complete Internet is blocked in several major cities.
The protests are continuing in Iran from last three days and there are several arrests across the country. The restrictions on Instagram and Telegram are imposed to maintain tranquillity, said, President Hassan Rouhani. Since there is a lot of Government influence on the traditional media, the social media has been very popular in the country. Telegram is the most popular instant messaging app in the country and is used by almost half of the countries population.
Pavel Durov, Founder & CEO of Telegram, tweeted saying “Iranian authorities are blocking access to Telegram for the majority of Iranians after our public refusal to shut down t.me/sedaiemardom and other peacefully protesting channels.” While the Telegram and Instagram are currently blocked in Iran, you can still use them with the VPN services. However, the following procedure will be useless in the cities where the whole Internet is blocked.
The VPN (Virtual Private Network) can be used to access internet without any restrictions. There are several free VPN services available on the internet. Most of the free VPN services also offer Android and iOS apps. Firstly search and install the free VPN app from Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store. However, the free VPN services only have few servers and limited bandwidth.
We recommend the premium Vypr VPN (3-day free trial) service with unlimited data usage and 3/5 simultaneous connections. More than a year ago, we reported about the ban on another popular instant messaging app WhatsApp in Brazil. With the VPN service.
