How Durable are the new Samsung Galaxy S8 Smartphones? – Video

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

The brand new flagships from Samsung, the Galaxy S8, and the Galaxy S8 Plus are undoubtedly the best looking Android phones on the market right now. They have the legendary ‘Infinity Display’ that everyone is talking about and definitely it looks far better than any other smartphone in the market right now. However, every smartphone looks shiny and flashy when it’s new right? The real question is, how is it going to fare over time? Well, we have an answer to that very question.

If you have been following the YouTube Channel named JerryRigEverything, then you already know that the test which the Galaxy S8 is about to go through is brutal. It is Brutal enough to make it look like it’s been in use for a couple of years, if not worse. So what happened when the Galaxy S8 went through all the abuse? Did it survive? Well, the answer to that question is, yes. The Galaxy S8 did indeed survive Jerry’s durability test like a champ.

Starting off with the scratch test, just like with the every other flagship smartphone’s glass, the Galaxy S8 also showed the signs of scratch with a level 6 pick. So the Gorilla Glass on the Galaxy S8 is not going to be affected with your standard keys or coins in your pocket. One of the interesting observation which we saw here was with the earpiece on the front. If you notice closely, it is slightly recessed below the glass surface. This means the dust particles, lint, etc. will get trapped into it quite easily. Whereas this was not the case with the Galaxy S7 or the Edge variants that came out last year.

The camera sensor is also covered with a glass and luckily it doesn’t get scratched that easily. One to tho note, however, is that there is a metal ring which slightly protrudes from the surface. However, this is definitely subtle and it is there to protect your camera lens. The fingerprint scanner which is already in a weird spot also holds quite well with the scratches. Despite all the scratches, it works flawlessly. And then we move on to the fire test. Normally we won’t set our phones on fire but yes, for the sake of the test, the devices had to go through that.

After being exposed to direct fire for about 30 seconds, the screen starts to turn white and then again becomes normal when the fire is removed. The S7 from last year didn’t recover after turning white, hence this is a progress. Also, talking about the rear glass, it can be removed and the color can be scraped off from the inside. So if you are all about that clear back panel exposing the internals, then this should be your thing.

And now, finally moving on to the bend test, the Galaxy S8 holds up pretty tight. Despite applying so much pressure, the phones doesn’t breaks or cracks. In fact, even the seal is not broken which means that it still has the water resistant capability. Overall, it is safe to say that the Galaxy S8 is built like a tank and is not going to show a lot of signs of aging with time. Having said that, we would like to know your thoughts on this.
