OnePlus 5 Gets Android 8.0 Oreo Based OxygenOS 5.0 OTA Update, Face Unlock Coming Soon

Last month, OnePlus released the Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.0 OTA update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T users. A few days later, the company also came up with the Oreo-based Open Beta update for the OnePlus 5 smartphone. Now, OnePlus has started rolling out the OxygenOS 5.0 OTA update for the OnePlus 5 smartphone. It is based on Android 8.0 Oreo and includes the Android security patch update for the month of December.
Carl Pei, CEO of OnePlus, also confirmed the Face Unlock feature introduced with the OnePlus 5T will be soon available on OnePlus 5 smartphone. The company had earlier denied offering this feature as the front facing fingerprint sensor already offers a great user experience. While there is no timeline mentioned, we expect it to be included in the next update for OnePlus 5 smartphone.
Talking about the OxygenOS 5.0 update for OnePlus 5 smartphone, it packs all the new features introduced with the Android 8.0 Oreo. Additionally, the company also made few optimizations to the OxygenOS. According to the changelog, the optimizations are made to the Shelf feature which works same as the Google Now on Pixel launcher. The users can also upload their photos through “Shot on OnePlus” option.
In the Gallery, the user will now see a new tab called “Places” for viewing photos on a map. The Calculator app on OxygenOS 5.0 will show the history of calculations. Talking about the camera app, it got a new user interface, and the company added beauty mode for the Portrait Mode. There are few optimisations made for improving the photo quality. There is a new alarm calendar feature in the Clock app.
The Lift up display which shows notifications when you lift the device got a new design. OnePlus added the Parallel Apps feature for using two WhatsApp or WeChat accounts on the same device. We can also see a new design for Quick Settings with the OxygenOS 5.0 on OnePlus 5. There also optimizations made for the Wi-Fi and Battery Saver. If there is no notification about this new update, you can also manually check it through the About Phone section in the Phone settings.
