Samsung to Kill Bixby’s Reward Points Service that encouraged users to use Bixby

Last year, Samsung announced its own virtual assistant called Bixby. It was first showcased at the 2017 Galaxy Unpacked event where the company launched Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones. Samsung even went ahead and added a dedicated hardware button just to trigger Bixby. The company also confirmed to bring Bixby-powered smart speaker later this year. Talking about the features, Bixby can do much more than any other voice assistant but it’s not the ideal voice assistant to use in daily life.

It is also the slowest voice assistant I personally used. In the initial days, the company has introduced ‘My Bixby Level’ service to encourage Galaxy smartphone users to use Bixby more frequently. For every task, the users will certain Samsung Reward Points and more points will take them to higher levels. Now, the company has confirmed killing the ‘My Bixby Level’ service. It will see its last day on August 10th, 2018.

Interestingly, the company is rumored to announce the Bixby 2.0 along with the upcoming Galaxy Note 9 smartphone. While there is no confirmation, the Galaxy Note 9 is rumored to be unveiled on August 9th in New York. While users can no longer earn Samsung Reward Points by using Bixby, they can be earned with Samsung Pay service. While the points can be redeemed for voice assistant’s backgrounds.

As of now, there is no confirmation whether the user can use the earlier redeemed backgrounds after August 10th or not. While the Bixby 1.0 is nowhere comparable to the likes of Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri, we hope this equation changes with the upcoming Bixby 2.0. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
