This Snapdragon 210-powered Rugged Smartphone Costs Rs 1,09,000 (£1214)
Panasonic has been selling rugged devices under the Toughbook series for a long time. The company now announced a new smartphone called Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1. Just like other Toughbook devices, the new FZ-T1 also comes with a premium price tag. However, it offers mediocre specifications at such a high price tag. Since this device targets a specific niche, we also can’t compare the FZ-T1 with the regular Android smartphones.
Talking about the Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1, it comes in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + LTE variants. While the Wi-Fi only variants costs £1,142 (approx $1515 / Rs 1,03,000), the Wi-Fi + LTE variant is priced at £1,214 (approx $1615 / Rs 1,09,000). It will be available across Europe and comes with 3-year warranty. Apart from regular smartphone functionalities, the FZ-T1 also comes with a 1D/2D integrated barcode scanner.
There are two customizable physical buttons on either side of the device for scanning quickly. It is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance and MIL-STD-810G certified for its durability. On the front is the 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display with Glove & Rain modes. The company is also selling a stylus called passive pen. The FZ-T1 comes with 32-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor clocked at 1.1GHz.
It is accompanied by a mere 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The device is backed by a 3,200mAh removable battery and support warm swap function where the user can replace the battery without switching off the device. Apart from MicroUSB port and 3.5mm audio jack, the FZ-T1 also comes with dock connector for connecting additional accessories. It runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with minimal customizations to the UI.
It measures 154 x 75 x 13.1 mm and weighs 240 grams. There are also three microphones for intelligent noise cancellation. At such a price, this is not even worth to give a try out for the regular smartphone usage. However, there are cheaper alternatives for the rugged smartphones from Chinese manufacturers.
