List of Smartphones Officially Confirmed to Get Android 9.0 Pie Update

The new Android 9.0 Pie is finally announced earlier this week. The Android Pie is the 9th major Android update we have from the beginning of the Android OS. While we got to know few features with the Android P Beta that is made available for Google Pixels and a few third-party devices, there are even more to explore in the final build. Most of the smartphone brands have announced the timeline for rolling out the all-new Android 9.0 Pie update.

List of the devices from all major Android smartphone manufacturers who have officially confirmed to update their previously launched smartphones.

Google

Google always offered faster updates for its own devices, it all started with Nexus lineup and now continuing with the Pixel devices. While the company will soon unveil the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the Pixel and Pixel 2 devices have already been updated to the latest Android 9.0 Pie. While the all-new Android 9.0 Pie is now official, let’s wait and see what new features Google showcases during the upcoming Google Pixel 3 launch.

  • Google Pixel
  • Google Pixel XL
  • Google Pixel 2
  • Google Pixel 2 XL

Nokia

HMD Global took a while to sell its first Nokia-branded with stock Android UI after launching the Nokia 6 in China with custom UI. Till date, all the Nokia Android smartphones came with stock Android UI and all the 2018 Nokia smartphones are launched under the Android One program. Not only the company has opted for the Pure Android UI, it also promised two year’s major Android updates for all of its devices and is also guaranteeing monthly security patch updates.

OnePlus

OnePlus is one of the very few brands who has participated in the Android P preview program. The Android 9.0 Pie Beta is already available for the newly launched OnePlus 6 smartphone. Though the OnePlus devices come with a custom skin, its own Oxygen OS looks very close to the stock Android UI. Since the company launches just one new device every six months, it’s not hard for them to bring the last OS updates quicker than others. While the new OnePlus 6 will obviously get the new Android 9.0 Pie update, only the last two generations from the previously launched devices will be updated to the latest Android OS.

  • OnePlus 3
  • OnePlus 3t
  • OnePlus 5
  • OnePlus 5t
  • OnePlus 6

Essential

Essential is the smartphone brand of Andy Rubin, the co-founder of Android. Its current portfolio includes only one smartphone – Essential PH-1. For the first time, we have seen a third-party smartphone getting the new major Android update on the same day as Google devices. Essential rolled out the Android 9.0 Pie update for its only device on the same as Google Pixel devices got the update.

  • Essential Phone

Sony

Sony hasn’t been doing well in the smartphone market in the recent year’s. Recently, the company skipped the boring Omnibalance design and opted for the glossy finish body with curved edges and corners. Now, the company is said to have confirmed the list of Xperia smartphones which will be receiving the all-new Android 9.0 Pie update. Though there is no clear timeline mentioned for the new OS update, the roll-out for the below-mentioned devices will begin sometime in September.

  • Sony Xperia XZ Premium
  • Sony Xperia XZ1
  • Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact
  • Sony Xperia XZ2
  • Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact
  • Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium

HTC

HTC has been facing a hard time in the smartphone industry. With its latest smartphone, the company also completely ditched the hardware buttons and replaced with the pressure sensitive sensors. With the cut-throat competition from Chinese brands, the Taiwanese brand is now mostly wiped from the budget segment. However, it is one of very few major smartphone brands to come with a roadmap for the Android 9.0 Pie update in a very short span.

  • HTC U12+
  • HTC U11+
  • HTC U11
  • HTC U11 Life

Huawei

Huawei has recently overthrown Apple to become the second largest smartphone brand in the world. The company is constantly launching new smartphones with innovative features. The CPU and GPU Turbo technologies exclusive to Kirin-powered chipsets are said to greatly improve the performance of all the compatible smartphones. It recently confirmed a limited set of its users in China will be getting the Android 9.0 Pie update. Below are the following set of Huawei devices which are officially confirmed to get the latest Android update.

  • Huawei Mate 10 Pro
  • Huawei P20 Pro

Honor

Along with the Huawei devices, the company also revealed a couple of Honor-branded devices will also get the Android 9.0 Pie update. As of now, the latest update is only limited to Chinese devices and it might take a few weeks to release the update for international units.

  • Honor 10
  • Honor View 10 (Honor V10)

OPPO

OPPO is one of the Chinese brands to participate in the Android P Beta Preview program. While it will soon get the Android 9.0 Pie public update, we are yet to know the timeline for other devices in its portfolio.

  • Oppo R15 Pro

Vivo

Vivo is yet another Chinese brand to offer Android 9 Beta update. The announcement came in as a surprise as these brands never offered software updates for most of its devices. While the beta update is only limited to Chinese units, we hope they soon update their popular devices outside of China to the latest Android 9.0 Pie.

  • Vivo X21 (Vivo X21 UD)

Xiaomi (Mi)

Just like other Chinese brands, Xiaomi also seems to have changed its strategy to quickly update its devices to the latest Android OS. While the company has announced the Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10, its last generation smartphones are yet to receive the Android 8.1 Oreo update. With the Android 9.0 Pie update, we hope at least its flagship devices will be receiving the new major update very soon.

  • Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S
  • Xiaomi Mi A1
  • Xiaomi Mi A2
  • Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite

Asus

Asus has pretty aggressive with its smartphones in 2018. While it has a small presence even in the Western world, the 2018 Zenfone devices with their aggressive price tag are serious competitors for Chinese devices. With the Zenfone Max Pro M1, the company even ditched its in-house Zend UI in favor of stock Android UI. Asus not only confirmed the Android 9.0 Pie update, but also the upcoming Android Q update in 2019.

  • Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1
  • Asus Zenfone 5
  • Asus Zenfone 5Z

Motorola (Moto)

After Lenovo’s acquisition, Motorola isn’t doing that well in terms of sales. It is even failing to rollout the latest updates for its devices. However, the company now came up with the roadmap for updating its Moto devices to the newly announced Android 9.0 Pie. The rollout will begin next month in selected markets and might take some time to release the OTA update for devices in all the markets.
