Huawei to Launch P9 Smartphone in India on August 17th – Confirms Invitation
Huawei is finally launching the P9 smartphone in India in the coming month, 17th August to be specific. Previously it was launched in Europe and other parts of Asia in the month of May. The specs and everything about the device are expected to be the same. However, we don’t have any info about the release of P9 Plus in the country, so stay tuned for more information on that.
Earlier: Huawei, the Chinese mobile giant with big presence in Europe has finally unveiled the much awaited P9 smartphone, a successor to its P8 handset. Sporting quite a similar design on the rear side that looks like a Nexus 6P, the camera bump and fingerprint sensor, although, the camera modules you see on the rear side is a dual lens setup, which is co-engineered with Leica, the professional camera lens maker.
There are two handsets that company has revealed at stage setup in London; the P9 and P9 Plus, Priced £449 & £549, respectively. Both would be sporting the same camera setup, but of course there would be a size difference. The P9 handset comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD display, offers 96% color saturation when compared with 72% on iPhone 6S display. The brightness level is set at 500 nits with 20 backlight LEDs backing up the display, thus appealing the sunlight legibility.
The P9 Plus will have a 5.5-inch Full HD display. They both will be powered by Kirin 955 Octa-core chipset, but P9 will sport 3GB of RAM & 32GB internal storage whereas the P9 Plus will have 4GB of RAM & 64GB of internal storage. There would be a 128GB model of P9 Plus, but it won’t be available in Europe, but in Asia. Though, not to worry, both region variants will have microSD card support up to 128GB.
They both sport a full metal body and would come in different colors like Titanium Grey, Mystic Silver, Prestige Gold and Rose Gold. The company also touts that there is no camera bump as the modules are absolutely flat. On stage, the maker showcased a comparison of its almost bezel-less display, which has an invisible edge of 1.7mm, compared to 3.07mm on the Galaxy S7 and 4.29mm on the iPhone 6s.
The battery capacity on the P9 handset is 3000mAh, which is nearly as twice as big (1715mAh) of what is found on the iPhone 6s. Whereas the P9 Plus will sport a 3400mAh capacity battery. With a USB Type-C port and fast charging support, the P9 is the handset of future. Company touts that 10 minutes of charging will give up to 5 hours of talk time, which is amazing, while it can be fully charged in 110 minutes.
Talking more about the camera setup, the Leica has partnered up with Huawei to specially design this dual lens setup called SUMMARIT H 1:2.2/27 ASPH. You should be aware that these are Sony Sensors that are installed on the rear side of the P9, one of them is IMX286. Where one of them is an RGB sensor, while another one is a monochrome sensor, together they result in wonderful captures.
The partnership yields a great camera experience; that’s why you see a pure Leica Experience; the UI fonts and real shutter sound in the camera app. Also, you get a professional mode, which basically lets you play around with ISO, Focus, Exposure, Shutter Speed and other aspects. You get a photography experience on a smartphone like never before.
It is not the first time that we are seeing dual lens setup, one of the first it was ever seen was on the QiKU Terra handsets; the 808 and 810. And of course, the company’s sub brand Honor 6 Plus. The Huawei touts that it has a larger 1.25-micron pixels against the iPhone 6s, but it is a negligible difference of 0.02 micron. The availability of the P9 handset in Europe and Asia is within a month while the P9 Plus should be available in May. Note that European models will have single-SIM whereas the Asian models will sport dual-SIM support.
