Kirin 650 VS MTK 6795 Processor
Last week, Honor unveiled its latest smartphone, the Honor 5C, which is nothing but a marvelous piece of innovation packed into a sturdily built body. While most of the smartphone brands jumping on the bandwagon of specifications war, Honor is one such company that is focused on creating products that are not only good in specifications but actually deliver the performance and efficiency the consumer craves for.
Did you know how Honor 5C is able to achieve the highest order of performance and power efficiency? By simply leveraging the most technologically advanced processor on their mid-range affordable handset. Without compromising on the potential of the chipsets, Honor got hold of end-users experience on their latest handset. That is what we will be discussing today as well as comparing the Kirin 650 chipset with MediaTek 6795.
Below you can read the comparison of latest Kirin and MediaTek processor where we talk about manufacturing node, CPU cores, GPU and LTE connectivity features.
Manufacturing Node: Kirin 650 Vs MTK 6795
First, let me briefly explain you about manufacturing node. It is a process technology in regard to digital integrated circuits, referring mainly to the method used to make silicon chips. Miniaturization is the driving force behind the manufacturing of integrated circuits. So, the smaller the transistors, the more can be fitted in the same area, which in return creates a chain of possibilities. Such as faster switching, less consumption of energy and thus they’ll be much cooler even with high performance.
Many mid-range chipsets are still manufactured using the 28nm process; MediaTek 6795 is one those processor. While talking about the Kirin 650, which is Honor’s in-house processor uses a 16nm process, thus making it much better in performance and power consumption. Moreover, with advanced FinFET process technology implemented in manufacturing this Kirin chipset allows it to be generations ahead as per company claims. Many believe that chipsets can be easily compared on the basis of their benchmark score for apps like Antutu and Vellamo. But the real life experience matters more than the potential these apps shows. That is where Kirin 650 is said to excel, a real-life end-user experience.

Why Kirin 650 better than MediaTek 6795? CPU, GPU & LTE Features
We have talked about how the 16nm manufacturing process node makes Kirin 650, the best mid-range processor as we compared it with 28nm process made MT 6795 aka Helios X10. Now it’s time to differentiate between the CPU cores, GPUs and LTE features on these two chipsets.
The number of CPU cores on Kirin 650 processor is eight, which is equivalent to MediaTek chipset in question here. But why Kirin 650 performs better than the Helios X10 is because the chipset on Honor 5C comes with big.LITTLE architecture. This setup means you’ll see four low-power cores clocking at 1.7GHz performing the background tasks leveraging the power consumption to the lowest. Whenever the system is performing high-intensity tasks, the remaining four high-power core pumps up the system and provides the power need to carry out multitasking. This big.LITTLE setup ensures that consumers are getting best performance as well as battery life. For instance, the Kirin 650 delivers 54% increase in performance and 40% decrease in power consumption when compared to previous generation Kirin chipset.
The graphical processing unit you see accompanying the Kirin 650 chipset is Mali- T830, which is supposedly faster than old iteration. The MediaTek chipset has PowerVR G6200, which is a GPU developed by Imagination Technologies. These are around a half decade old GPUs launched under the PowerVR Series6. They no doubt support OpenGL 3.x, 4.x and ES along with DirectX 10. But is not better than the Mali GPU in question here. The whole output relies on the manufacturing process, as this PowerVR GPU found on 28nm chipsets, while Mali supports 16nm process.
Coming to the connectivity talk, well, the high-grade dual antennas system on Kirin 650 provides incredible RF performance. It is said to switch antenna automatically with the best signal, which helps in preventing dropped calls. On the other hand is Helios X10 support for Cat. 4 LTE, and is said to offer up to 150MB/s download and 50MB/s upload speeds.
