The South Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung have a lot of patents to their name and now adding on that list we have yet another new patent from the company that illustrates both foldable Galaxy smartphones as well as tablets. The company has been testing these type of designs for quite some time now, and the final consumer version is about to be launched soon. The rumored Galaxy X is also expected to launch in 2017 with a 5.7-inch 2K display.

Taking a look at the new patent, we see an illustration of some kind of touch recognition on the edge display of the device when it is folded. This will allow the users to control the edge display based on the direction of the folded device. In fact, it even covers a method for controlling floating display area which is based on the direction in which the tablet is viewed.

According to some reports, Samsung is expected to launch it’s first foldable smartphone dubbed the project Valley by the year 2017. This new patent could be of some similar type, and we can expect the company to take that project forward. Looking at the previous patent, it explains the execution of different modes via touch gesture when a foldable tablet is unfolded. What that means is, when you touch on any icon on the edge display when the tablet is folded, the app will be launched and kept ready for you once you unfold the tablet and open your device to use.

Also, multiple user profile options are also included, to allow you to select which user you want to log in as, and the necessary apps and permissions will be set and will be kept ready to use once you unfold the tablet to use. Note that; all this will be on the edge display on the outside of the device when the tablet is in folded.

The company filed these patents back in November 2015 and considering the fact, that so far we have not seen any progress, we can expect the company to take this forward now and come up with something soon maybe in 2017. So far we have no information on any such devices scheduled, but we are expecting the company to announce or tease something soon. Recently we also spotted a Galaxy Folder 2 online. Stay tuned for information on this in coming days.
