Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge - Rear Side (1)

The Galaxy S smartphone lineup is updated every year, with Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge being this year’s update. Now that we are close to the launch of the Note Phablet, all rumors are rounded up, and we have the complete list of expected specs and features about the device. So now it’s just about time, that we start seeing interesting speculations about the upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone.

Like every year, we will be most probably seeing this device for the first time in the month of February during MWC 17. With the S7 and its edge variant being one of the finest devices of the year 2016, we can only hope that Samsung would upgrade upon the already existing flagships and make them even better. So according to some reports, the new Galaxy S8 smartphone is being referred to as Project Dream internally. So this is the name we should be looking out for, in the future shipment leaks, etc.

Earlier: At the recently held SID display week 2016, Samsung showcased the 4K UHD displays for VR and smartphones. The company came up with a new technology called Bio Blue which decreases the blue light levels to 6% which earlier displays can only reduce upto 32%. The 5.5-inch 4K display is earlier rumored to be used for upcoming Galaxy Note 7, but the latest report suggests the Galaxy S8 that will be launched in 2017 will feature 5.5-inch 4K UHD display.

The mass production of the 4K display is said to begin within the next few months. It uses the AMOLED display with a resolution 2840 x 2160 pixels and with a pixel density of 806ppi. With a 4K display, the device can be used for viewing content in virtual reality via Gear VR. According to UBI Research, Samsung has improved the display resolution for every two years. The Galaxy S4 and S5 came with a Full HD display and the Galaxy S6 and S7 featured Quad HD resolution display.

If the rumors are to be believed, the company will also unveil its first foldable device in early 2017. Recently Lenovo had showcased the bendable Cplus smartphone and foldable Folio tablet at the Lenovo Tech World 2016. While both the devices aren’t yet the fully developed, the company says to make the Cplus and Folio fully functional by the end of this year. Even the LG is also working on foldable display while Sony is said to launch the Xperia X Premium with a 4K HDR display.

The Xperia Z5 Premium unveiled at the IFA 2015 Berlin is the world’s first smartphone to feature 4k resolution display. While the upcoming Galaxy Note 7 will be powered by the Snapdragon 823 chipset along with 6GB of RAM, the Galaxy S8 might feature the same 6GB of RAM. The IRIS scanner will be also featured on both the devices apart from the fingerprint sensor for additional security. Since there is no official confirmation, take this with a pinch of salt.
