Weekly Wrap-Up #21 : LYF Flame 5, Earth 2, Mi Max, Vivo X7 Plus & More…..

The weekly wrap-up covering all the latest developments in the smartphone industry is now live. This week, we have some interesting launches from Indian manufacturers as well as from Chinese manufacturers. We also got some information about the upcoming devices, and there are official confirmations from few brands about the launch of their upcoming devices in the next few days. Most the smartphones launched this week are supporting 4G LTE connectivity which offers high-speed internet.

• LYF had launched the flagship Earth 2 and affordable Flame 5 smartphone last week. Just like earlier LYF smartphones, both the devices supports 4G LTE with VoLTE and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. The LYF Earth 2 is priced at Rs. 19,999 while the Fame 5 costs just Rs. 3,999.Talking about the Flame 5, it comes with the similar specifications as Flame 3, Flame 4, and Flame 6. It has a 4-inch WVGA display and is powered by MediaTek quad-core processor. The device includes just 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, and a smaller 1,650mAh battery. On the other hand, the Earth 2 has a 5-inch Full HD display along with Snapdragon 615 SoC, 3GB RAM, and a 32GB of internal storage. It has a fingerprint sensor and the Retina scanner for unlocking the device.

• Intex Aqua Classic is the latest entry-level smartphone from the Indian manufacturer Intex. It is priced at Rs. 4,444 but lacks the 4G LTE connectivity as on LYF Flame smartphones. It sports a 5-inch FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) display and is protected by Gorilla Glass on top. The device is powered by the Spreadtrum SC7731C processor clocked at 1.2GHz. On the camera front, it has a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front camera. It is backed by a 2,100mAh battery that is said to give 6 hours of talk time. The device runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and supports dual SIM dual standby. Connectivity options include 3G HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. It measures 145.5 x 72.6 x 9.3 mm and weighs 160 grams.

• Micromax had launched the Micromax Unite 4 and Unite 4 Pro smartphones with home-grown Indus OS 2.0. While the Unite 4 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the Unite 4 Pro comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop based Indus OS. The Unite 4 is priced at Rs. 6,999 and is sold through online and offline stores while the Rs. 7,499 priced Unite 4 Pro is only available via Snapdeal. Both the device comes with a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display and sports fingerprint sensors. The Unite 4 has 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage whereas the Unite 4 Pro comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The devices also feature an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP selfie camera on the front.

• Google already sell smartphones, tablets, Chromebook, and other devices through the Play Store. Though not all devices are manufactured by Google, for example, Nexus smartphones and tablets are manufactured other smartphone manufacturers. But the company is rumored to launch their own smartphones which give Google the complete control over the design and software part. If the rumors are to believe, the device will be launched by the end of this year. Apart from the regular Nexus devices will also be launched in the next couple of months. Unlike earlier Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, both the upcoming devices will be manufactured by HTC and we have already numerous leaks about the both the devices codenamed Marlin and Sailfish.

• Vivo X7 and X7 Plus are latest smartphones from the Chinese fastest growing brand. The device will be directly competing with the OPPO R9 and R9 Plus that have been a huge hit in China. Both the devices come with an all metal body with a physical home button on the front integrated with a fingerprint sensor. Just like OPPO R9 and R9 Plus, both the Vivo X7 & X7 Plus features 16MP front cameras but additionally assisted with moonlight flash. The Vivo X7 comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display while the Vivo X7 Plus has a 5.7-inch display with the same resolution. Both the devices are powered by the Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The devices run on Android 5.1 Lollipop with FunTouch 2.5.1 UI overlaid.

• Xiaomi Mi Max launched in India in two variants priced at Rs. 14,999 for 3GB RAM and Rs. 19,999 for 4GB RAM. The device comes with a huge 6.44-inch Full HD display and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The device will also receive the MIUI 8 once it is made available. The 3GB RAM variant is powered by Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor and includes 32GB of storage, while the 4GB variant comes with Snapdragon 652 SoC and 128GB storage. Both the variants has the MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. It has a 16MP rear camera with PDAF and a 5MP front camera. The device is kept powered on by a 4850mAh non-removable battery but measures just 7.5 mm thickness. It will be available in Dark Grey, Gold, and Silver colors and can be purchased via open sales across all the major online stores in India.
