Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 830 SoC to be manufactured by Samsung on a 10nm process
Samsung Galaxy S8, which is expected to be the next big thing from the company is still quite far away from the official release. But when you are talking about such a flagship smartphone, the rumours are bound to start popping out early. We have already seen a handful of rumours about the device and now we have yet another reports which claim the Galaxy S8 might be the fastest smartphone ever made. Well, of course, it will be since that’s the case with every other Samsung smartphone nowadays.
Well, according to the new report from a source in South Korea, some of the Galaxy S8 versions will integrate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 830 SoC. Yes, that’s the first time we are hearing about the new 830 SoC here. And another thing to note here is that these will be exclusively manufactured by Samsung on a 10nm node process. It has been reported that Samsung has scored an exclusive deal with Qualcomm to manufacture the Snapdragon 830 on a 10nm process.
Qualcomm introduces the new 410E & 600E Processors for innovative IoT Gadgets
This technology will be called the FoPLP which, if you don’t what it is, it stands for Fan-out Panel Level Package. So will essentially enable Samsung to manufacture the chips without a printed circuit board for the package substrate. The rumour has it that the company will be jointly developing this new manufacturing technology with the chipset manufacturer, Qualcomm. If you still don’t understand what we are talking here about then, the only thing you need to know is that the FoPLP technology will drastically reduce the production cost.
And not just that, it will also make the chips thinner and since these, the technology implies a 10nm node, they will be more power and thermally efficient. And these are all the things that we ever wanted a chipset to be, so it is kind of neat that Samsung is doing it just right. Well, all these new rumours and reports only make more excited about the new Galaxy S8 smartphones. And as far as other rumours go, we have already covered a bunch of them.
The new Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to come with a 4K display on the front, which we believe is completely overkill for a smartphone. Yes, it definitely allows for a better VR experience, but what about the other factors like the battery life of the smartphone? We are currently in a state where the batteries are not able to handle a load of 2K resolution properly in many cases, then talking about 4K resolution on a smartphone sounds nothing but a fantasy at this point.
And it is also expected that the new Galaxy S8 smartphone will be launching quite sooner as compared to previous launches due to the fact that Note 7 sales were not quite impressive due to the explosions. So until and unless we get some strong info on the specs, availability or pricing of the device, we suggest you to take all these rumours and speculations with a pinch of salt. Stay tuned for more details on this smartphone.
